ROVIGO – A free check-up, for which a referral from a general practitioner is not necessary. LThe Ulss 5 company is inviting people from Polesine who have turned 50 – in 1974 – to participate in the cardiovascular screening promoted by the Regional Prevention Plan. The communication, sent to citizens who are not being followed for pathologies, by means of a letter sent to their home, offers a pre-arranged (but modifiable) appointment in the 2 new clinics established at the Old Hospital of Adria and the Hospital of Trecenta.

This screening, carried out and designed by the Hygiene and Public Health Operational Unit, is offered free of charge to citizens in their early fifties, began last September and is receiving very positive feedback from the population. The Ulss 5 Company, among the first in the Region to start with the screening called Cardio50, is a leading player in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction and stroke, which are the most frequent cause of death and disability in our population. But prevention is possible: the most important risk factors must be corrected (sedentary lifestyle, smoking, poor diet, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia). The screening involves an active call with invitation to users aged 50 years who are not already suffering from arterial hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia or cardiovascular diseases with a pre-arranged appointment at the Hygiene and Public Health Service clinics.

During the visit, the healthcare professional evaluates, through an in-depth interview, lifestyles – smoking, sedentary lifestyle, diet – and carries out a measurement of weight, height, waist size, blood pressure and blood sugar and cholesterol levels through the examination of a drop of blood.

“If from the interview at the clinics it emerges that the person’s lifestyle can be improved, various individual or group prevention opportunities are offered directly, based on the motivation and availability of the citizen, enhancing participation in promotional initiatives present in the territory, up to the point of reaching one’s own general practitioner, if significant alterations of some parameters occur” specifies the UOC Director of Hygiene and Public Health, Dr. Federica Fenzi.

“This is a precious health opportunity, which I recommend taking part in – confirms the Director of the prevention department of the Ulss 5 Polesana company, Alessandro Finchi – Cardiovascular screening allows for the early identification of risk factors for important pathologies, planning effective actions to remove or control them”.

“Often the balance between life and work, and even the fullness of our days make attention to our health overshadow. Taking up this invitation for a free check-up carried out by our professionals means seizing a great opportunity to get to know yourself and take care of yourself. The initiative is included in the Regional Prevention Plan with the aim of intervening early by acting on incorrect lifestyles, to modify them through good information and the necessary insights, in the interest of the population’s quality of life”, confirms the Director General of the Ulss 5 Company, Pietro Girardi.
