No surprises for the first long weekend of spring which confirms the positive trend of the tourism sector as has been the case for many months now. This is what emerges from the monitoring of the Centro Studi Turistici, for Confesercenti Toscana, on the main online booking platforms. According to the results of the survey, the expected overnight stays in official accommodation facilities will rise to around 640 thousand.

The favorable combination of the holiday will especially boost domestic tourism, but what gives hope in the future is the constant growth of international tourism which has never shown a decline in interest in Tuscany. A substantial part of the movement will head above all towards the main art cities of the region, but also towards spa, rural and hill towns. A smaller flow of bookings was recorded for properties in coastal locations and mountain areas.

In particular, the average saturation rate found for cities/art centers stands at 93%. For seaside locations the average occupancy of the structures is 71% and the structures in the mountain areas stop at 67%. For spa and hill towns the rates recorded are 84% and 88% respectively.

Tourist type Occupancy rates as of 04/19/2024
Average Cities/art centers 93%
Average Coastal locations 72%
Average Spa resorts 84%
Average Mountain locations 67%
Average Rural and hilly locations 88%

In general, the distribution of tourist demand is expected in almost all areas of the region, even if for the coastal strip the saturation rates would stop below the average values. A better trend would appear, however, for the areas of Val d’Orcia, Val di Chiana, Chianti and Val d’Elsa. A good level of bookings was also recorded for Mugello and Valdarno.

“The spring long weekends confirm that Tuscany is highly attractive, in this case especially for the movements of Italian tourists, but the weather – explains Nico Gronchi, President of Confesercenti Toscana – significantly slows down bookings on the coast. The average figure, however, pushes our Region among the favorite Italian destinations, because the many “tourism” that make it up manage to make it attractive despite the cold end of winter that is arriving. Cities of art, culture and food and wine play an important role and maintaining this growth trend, which has now steadily brought the numbers back to pre-covid levels, will be a challenge for the entire “Tuscany system”.

Agritourisms, Confagricoltura: “80% attendance in the facilities”

“April 25th will be the first big long weekend of the season and we are very confident. Tuscan farmhouses have always been among the protagonists of spring stays and we hope for the same this year. We are facing a test bed.”

Daniela Maccaferri, president of Agriturist Toscana, said this, commenting on the latest data on stays planned for the next long weekend.

“A good percentage of our facilities – continues Maccaferri – will be full for this April 25th, around 80%. I find this a more than excellent result given the latest events, which have certainly discouraged bookings throughout the regional and non-regional territory. Inflation and international conflicts weigh irreparably on departures because a climate of fear has now established, not to mention the variable weather conditions that are keeping confirmations from the Italians on hold. Despite this, we are ready.”

“The internal areas – says Fabiola Materozzi, Confagricoltura Toscana and coordinator of Agriturist Toscana -, Chianti, Siena and Val d’Orcia, are not yet full. The coast, however, is waiting for the weather forecast to confirm reservations. overall, the trend is stable compared to 2023 and as always, facilities that offer the provision of meals are preferred. A good result for agritourisms”.
