There was also a representation of the ‘Alessandro Volta’ state technical-technological institute of Perugia among the 750 Umbrian students and teachers who went to Vatican City on Friday 19 April for Pope Francis’ meeting with the national network of schools of peace .

‘We transform the future. For peace. Cura was the title of the meeting which took place in the Paul VI Hall and saw the participation of 6000 students, teachers and school managers from 135 schools from 94 cities in 18 regions. The initiative, in collaboration with Father Enzo Fortunato, coordinator of World Children’s Day, was organized by the National Network of Schools for Peace, the PerugiAssisi Foundation for the Culture of Peace, the National Coordination of Local Bodies for Peace and Human Rights, Network of Italian Universities for Peace (RUniPace), ‘Antonio Papisca’ Human Rights Center and UNESCO Chair ‘Human Rights, Democracy and Peace’ of the University of Padua.

Among those present at the meeting were Stefania Proietti, mayor of Assisi and president of the Province of Perugia, Fabiana Cruciani, head teacher of the Itts Volta and coordinator of the National Network of Peace Schools, and Flavio Lotti, president of the PerugiAssisi Foundation for the Culture of Peace. Some students from Itts Volta also gave their testimony.

The meeting with Pope Francis marked the beginning of the fourth edition of the ‘Civic Week’ which will end on April 25, an initiative dedicated to the enhancement and promotion of civic education of the young generations desired by Parliament. “At the center of the meeting with Pope Francis – they explained from the Peace Schools Network – there was the desire to train a new generation of builders of peace and to find the ways to ‘transform the future’ which today is threatened by many wars, injustices and unjustifiable and unbearable inequalities”.

There were 15 Umbrian schools participating in the event: in addition to the Volta of Perugia, the teaching management ‘A. Moro’ of Terni, the Iis ‘M. Polo – R. Bonghi’ of Assisi, the ‘G. Fanciulli’ of Arrone, the comprehensive institute of Acquasparta, the comprehensive institute Foligno 4, the comprehensive institute Gualdo Tadino, the comprehensive institute Narni Centro, the comprehensive institute Narni Scalo, the comprehensive institute Spoleto 1 ‘Della Genga – Alighieri’, the Umbertide Montone Pietralunga comprehensive institute, the ‘D. Alighieri’ Nocera Umbra, the all-inclusive ‘Salvatorelli – Moneta’ institute in Marsciano, the ‘R. Donatelli’ of Terni and the Second educational circle ‘A. He died in Gubbio.

The meeting was opened by the ‘Aldo Capitini’ Peace Orchestra of the Umbertide Montone Pietralunga Comprehensive Institute and by the ‘Cor Gentile’ Choir of the Foligno 4 Comprehensive Institute.
