Tuttosport: “Palermo doesn’t pass”

Today’s edition of Tuttosport focuses on Palermo who didn’t go beyond a 0-0 draw against Parma.

The long-awaited clash between the first and second attacks of the championship, Palermo and Parma, ended goalless early in the day. It was a fair draw that reflected a balanced match, in which neither team was able to gain the upper hand over the other. Despite the result, Parma takes another step towards promotion to Serie A, while Palermo fails to consolidate its position in the playoffs. Mignani, the new coach of Palermo, seems to suffer from “draws”, having already collected three draws since he arrived in the rosanero. The challenge for both teams is now to maintain focus and continue to fight for their goals for the season.

Parma gives the impression of wanting to take control of the game, even if it is Palermo who arrives closest to the opponent’s area, thanks to the movement of Di Francesco who moves to the left from the midfield. First Lund puts in a tense cross deflected by Chichizola, then it’s Brunori who finds Di Mariano in the area, but his scissors kick ends up sky high. In the half-hour, a nasty clash between Estevez and Di Mariano, with the Palermo player coming off worst on a stretcher and in tears (a bad knee injury is feared), replaced by Buttaro. A few minutes later the first real goal: Di Francesco extends for Lund, the American crosses, Mancuso hits (badly) all alone but Chichizola deflects it into a corner. The danger shakes Parma who in the 2nd minute build what they didn’t do previously. Di Chiara shoots from the left, the ball hits Diakité and then seems to end up in the corner, Pigliacelli is superb.

On the next play the goalkeeper says no to a close-range shot from Delprato. Before the break, a header from Lund threatened to overtake Pigliacelli, the ball hitting the top of the crossbar. Pecchia decides to become more offensive and begins the second half with Charpentier for Cyprien. A move that seems to pay off, Parma lays siege to Palermo’s attacking midfield and creates two good opportunities with Estevez and Mihaila (both finishes out).

Palermo responds with the usual Di Francesco who finds Henderson in the area, a tower for Brunori who shortens when finishing. A play would be needed, like that of Man who catches Charpentier in the area but the attacker kicks out from a good position. After Pigliacelli’s volley-style save against Man, the chance that Palermo wastes in the 32nd minute is even more sensational. Di Francesco catches Buttaro three meters from the goal but the winger misses. During the pre-match, around a hundred Palermo fans threw bottles at the police who also lined up a few meters from the pre-filter to avoid any contact with the Parma fans. Tense moment, with even a car on fire.
