Carpi-Forlì, a match that recalls ancient white-hot challenges for the conquest of Serie C. A challenge, tomorrow, unfortunately diminished in pathos for the Galletti after that, until a month ago, the two teams were elbow to elbow with Ravenna in battle for supremacy with goals. Now, however, things have completely changed. Carpi sails in the lead with a lead that has risen from +2 over Ravenna to +4, due to Pistoiese’s exclusion from the championship.
Forlì, having recovered with a clear 3-0 win against Victor San Marino after three defeats, finds itself 12 points from the top and only playing for the playoffs, a goal that is now even more difficult to reach precisely because of Pistoiese. The Modena team awaits the Galletti at Cabassi on the strength of a streak of seven consecutive successes in which they have scored an impressive 15 goals compared to only 2 conceded.
On the bench of the red and white team sits Cristian Serpini, subscribed to the 4-3-1-2 formation, already in charge of Correggese, Lentigione and Ravenna. After an alternating first round, his group was able to find a continuity of results that took them to the top step of the rankings. On home soil, Carpi suffered only one defeat (1-2) at the hands of Fanfulla (five away defeats) compared to ten wins and three draws.
The attack is explosive: with 58 centres, it is by far the most prolific in group D, with the lion’s share played by Simone Saporetti from Ravenna, top scorer with 20 goals (5 from the penalty spot), signed after a Serie C championship halfway between Trento and Renate with 5 goals. Among the other 14 players who have scored this year, the Senegalese Abdullaye Sall has 9, then the attacking midfielder Matteo Cortesi, a former player, has 6 (31 appearances and 5 goals with Forlì in 2018-19, then the following season he won the Serie D with Mr. Angelini’s Cesena). The performance of the defensive package was also fair, second behind the Ravenna bunker (13), which conceded 28 goals.
With Cortesi, two other former red and whites in the ranks of Carpi: the winger Tommaso Tentoni (54 goals, 8 goals between series C and D with Forlì between 2015 and 2017) and the excellent central defender Marco Maini, with the cockerels l last year (28/3), but after rupturing his ligament on the third matchday he has not yet returned.
In the first leg, Mr. Antonioli’s team achieved a result greeted by thunderous applause from the Forlì public. The recovery of Ballardini and Maggioli is uncertain for tomorrow in Forlì. Also in doubt are the injured Bonandi and Drudi, who trained on the narrow gauge.
