L’AQUILA – Confindustria L’Aquila Abruzzo Interno and the University of L’Aquila together to protect workers’ health. The topic of ergonomic risks and musculoskeletal disorders, which represent a serious threat to the health of workers in all production sectors and affect 60% of the population, was discussed in the conference “Let’s lighten the load – new perspectives of promotion of workers’ health”, organized by Confindustria L’Aquila Abruzzo interior in collaboration with Mesva, Department of clinical medicine, public health, life and environmental sciences of the University of L’Aquila.

The conference took place at the headquarters of the Industrialists, in L’Aquila, and laid the foundations for a project aimed at increasing the knowledge of workers and companies, with a particular focus on the prevention of disorders linked to the working environment and diseases professional.

“The idea was born from an advanced studies training project of the Mesva department, the “Wheel Project”, which analyzes the needs of the working population with respect to ageing, biomechanical risks and raising the retirement age,” he explains Leila Fabiani, deputy director of the Mesva department and holder of the chair of Hygiene and Preventive Medicine at the University, “the analysis is aimed at a reduction of musculoskeletal disorders which represent the main cause of occupational disease and absence from work, and which entail economic costs for businesses and affect the quality of life of workers and absenteeism. Our objective is to improve the health of workers, the ergonomics of workstations, promote correct lifestyles and carry out an analysis of the needs of companies within the territory through knowledge of risk factors”.

“We propose intervention strategies that involve a multidisciplinary team to implement concrete actions also through postural training and training and information campaigns,” he declares Loreta Tobia, professor of Occupational Medicine of the Mesva department of the University of L’Aquila, “until arriving at what is called “reasonable adaptation” of the workstation to the needs of the workers”. The two days of conference work saw the involvement of various professional figures: a fact-finding phase and then launching a campaign within the companies through their recruitment, needs analysis, interventions and evaluation of the results”. The meeting was opened by the director of Confindustria L’Aquila, Francesco De Bartolomeis.

“The initiative born from the fruitful collaboration with the University of L’Aquila was an opportunity not only to address the issue of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, but also to understand the companies’ point of view and the importance of security in company strategies”, he underlines Pier Luigi Marinellidelegate of Confindustria L’Aquila Abruzzo Internal to private healthcare.

“For Confindustria, safety at work has always represented a value, as well as a factor of competitiveness and growth. Recovery, especially in a delicate moment like the current one, necessarily passes through quality paths that assign absolute centrality to the theme of safety, prevention and training”.
