OLBIA. The story seems to have all the characteristics of an act of vandalism or the action of an arsonist. Around 4:00 in the morning, a man wearing a sweatshirt and hat was seen walking away after setting fire to a large container of travertine slabs, ready to be applied to the internal walls of the restaurant Yumè by Simone Suncurrently under renovation in via Vittorio Veneto.
The arsonist’s action then continued a few tens of meters further on, outside the former State Railways building. Here too, some bags of rubbish piled up in the courtyard overlooking the pavement of the street were set on fire.
The Fire Brigade intervened on site and quickly put out the flames in the two fires but the Yumè building material was indelibly damaged due to the heat. It is possible that flammable liquid was used to accelerate the fire.
This is an apparently inexplicable episode, with no traces to suggest a specific objective towards the owner of the restaurant or the company in charge of the renovation. It is possible that the arson action was filmed by the surveillance cameras of some premises in the street. The recordings could clarify the contours of yet another incendiary episode, perhaps emulative, which occurred during the night in the city.
“The damage is around 5 thousand euros – comments Simone Sun -. Whoever set fire to the wooden container of the wall covering, which arrived a few days ago, left all the rest of the material intact. The manager of the company that is renovating the restaurant was notified of the fire in the early hours of the morning but it is inexplicable why the wooden box where the travertine slabs were was hit, and then the same author went to burn the bags in the courtyard of the nearby condominium. It is a clear senseless act of vandalism.”
The venue, also insured against fire and theft, should reopen to the public shortly.
