The extreme, not to say reckless, descent of a group of professional cyclists along the main staircase of Monesteroli ended with a fracture, an injury and a lot of fear. About a week ago a group of sportsmen, experts in the discipline, tried to tackle the descent to the sea in the town of Tramonti, in the Cinque Terre area which falls within the territory of the Municipality of La Spezia, riding their bicycles. A path that is very challenging on foot with its approximately 400 meters of difference in altitude, almost all of which is developed along narrow, uneven and steep stone steps, built by generations of inhabitants dedicated to agricultural activity.
The one who paid the price was Torquato Testa, a world-class athlete in the discipline, who fell at the bottom of the ladder that faces the sky when climbed, but sees the precipice in the opposite direction. “We were doing this shooting which went according to plan, everything was perfect – he himself said via his social media -. Right in the last part, at a point where I shouldn’t have made the mistake, I made a mistake. It was one of the scariest experiences of my entire life. I was very lucky with the type of fall I had and everything that happened after.”
In some frames Testa is seen lying on a step with the overhanging wall a few centimeters from his head. “I’m fine, I have a small fracture on my elbow and I have to do further tests. I have a hole under my armpit due to a piece of iron I fell on”, however reassured the cyclist, who in the video posted two days ago on You Tube underlines: “We are all professionals, we absolutely do not advise you to do it. We did it to record videos and content. We do it for work, don’t come here to ride your bike.” The content is also sponsored by a company that produces filming devices for athletes.
