The Gimarra variant? Eliminated by the councilors, but remains in the Prg

More chaos in the city council. Even though there is no longer the 20 million euros to build it, the disputed Gimarra road remains in the new Prg. And this despite the fact that the city council, in Thursday evening’s meeting, expressed itself politically in the opposite direction. The councilors have in fact rejected the opinions of the Urban Planning Office against the acceptance of the six observations with which the citizens asked to eliminate from the Prg the provision of the last stretch of the interdistrict. But the vote of the council, which expressed its opinion on the counterarguments (the opinions of the urban planning office), does not automatically entail the acceptance of the observations, as the general secretary explained. With the Gimarra road, the same problem already raised, in the previous session, on the observations to the Prg against the food logistics hub at the former sugar factory, arose again. So much so that the opposition (M5S, Fd’I, Lega) and some majority councilors (Stefano Marchegiani-Azione and Agnese Giacomoni-Pd), fearing possible appeals to the TAR, turned to the Prefect to get his opinion. “What will happen to the observations on the Gimarra variant – is the question posed on Thursday evening by the group leader of the Fratelli d’Italia Lucia Tarsi – we continue to not have an answer from the mayor and the offices”. “How will the offices – insisted the group leader of the League, Gianluca Ilari – interpret these votes?” “Are the observations approved or not? – urged M5S councilor Francesco Panaroni – because if the council cannot exercise its prerogatives, what do we vote to do?”.

Panaroni reconstructed the history of the Gimarra variant and the loss of 20 million euros: “Concluding the interdistrict was considered wrong and worsening city traffic even in Mayor Seri’s electoral leaflet and the commitment not to implement it was confirmed in the mandate resolution for Seri, approved by the city councilors, the same councilors who, some time later, voted the exact opposite, expressing themselves in favor of the Gimarra variant”. Panaroni recalled the popular mobilization against the variant: “Never seen since the post-war period until today, with the participation of over 6 thousand citizens, all the environmental and naturalistic associations, former mayors and former urban planning councilors and cultural personalities. The council wanted to continue anyway until losing the 20 million euros.”
