the first face-to-face meeting between the mayoral candidates of Bari

The first three-way debate between the mayoral candidates for the Bari 2024 administrative elections took place in the Telenorba studios. Michele Laforgia (supported by La Convention for Bari and the M5S), Vito Leccese (Pd, Verdi and other lists) and Fabio Romito (centre-right).

A ‘triello’ that saw the protagonists debate the situation in the city after the investigations of recent weeks, but also on the programs and visions for the Bari of the future. Laforgia and Leccese have reiterated their mutual support in case one of the two reaches the run-off. The candidate of La Convention for Bari, while underlining the good governance of the last 20 years of the centre-left in the city, underlined how the Apulian capital needs a “renewal” of the political proposal with a “new ruling class” that can also help the party ” of the city that remained behind” or that of “the non-central districts”.

Vito Leccese also noted how Bari has “considerably improved compared to before”, being able to attract tourists and investments. The next step, he says, is to recover a relationship “with the seafront”. On the impossibility of making a synthesis with Laforgia for the centre-left right from the first round, he then declared that, in any case, it was “a useful debate” for the Bari programme.

Romito instead focused on a discontinuity compared to the last 2 decades of the center-left since Bari must “change pace” and “turn the page” compared to “many things that didn’t go well”. For the centre-right exponent it is necessary to resolve numerous problems left behind by the last administrations, namely “social hardship, suburbs, transport situation” and also support the entrepreneurial initiative of young people.
