Political polls, Brothers of Italy is declining and the Democratic Party is gaining ground: who wins the European elections
Descriptive text here

Negative period for Fratelli d’Italia, which however remains the leading party in the country. The Dems are growing, the M5s is declining, Lega and Forza Italia are rather stable. Many parties hover around 4%: this is the threshold that will need to be exceeded in the June European elections to elect MEPs. Here is the new political poll from Demos.

In recent months Fratelli d’Italia has confirmed a slight decline, approval towards the government is decreasing but approval towards Meloni remains high. The opposition is growing, but for now not enough to really worry the majority. The Democratic Party rises but the M5s falls, while the League is recovering slightly but remains at low numbers. Here are the results of the new Demos survey for Repubblica, as the European elections in June approach.

FdI drops but remains first, Lega ahead of FI

Brothers of Italy drops to 28%: 0.2% less than the February survey. Of course, losing two tenths in two months is not a big problem for Giorgia Meloni, especially considering that her opponents do little better. For FdI, a declining trend has been confirmed throughout the last year, which goes on par with the decline in trust in the government (down to 44%, the lowest figure since the beginning of the second Conte government), while the approval of Melons remains stable at 44% (ahead of Antonio Tajaniwhich rose to 42%, Emma Bonino at 38% e Giuseppe Conte dropped to 34%). For Fratelli d’Italia, however, the 28% assumed by the survey is higher than the 26% obtained in the last elections – the result that Meloni said he wanted to replicate in the European elections on 8 and 9 June.

There League grows to 8.5%. Gaining 0.2%, Matteo Salvini’s Northern League recorded slight growth, but still better than last year’s constant decline. However, the numbers remain negative: in the continental elections the League will not only obtain a much worse result than in 2019, but it seems likely that it will have to give up a double-digit result. On the other hand, for now it remains the second majority party. In fact in the survey Forza Italia reaches 8% despite also having the votes of We moderatesgiven that the two sides will form a single list at the European elections.

Political polls, who wins the European elections: FdI first and Pd in decline, Forza Italia exceeds 10%

Pd growing, M5s doing badly and Verdi-Left doing well

The Democratic party it rises to 20.2%, growing by six tenths from February to today. The ‘psychological’ threshold of 20% is exceeded and Elly Schlein’s Dems start to rise in consensus again after the stop recorded at the beginning of the year. The trend is positive, and the result is better than the 19% obtained with Secretary Letta in the last political elections, but for now it is not enough: the Democratic Party maintains a gap of almost eight points from the Brothers of Italy, a figure which at the European elections could be reduced but it will not be enough to worry the Prime Minister.

The 5 Star Movement it drops to 16.4%, losing half a point in the last two months and confirms itself as the second opposition party with a certain gap. From the survey, it would appear that the tension with the Democratic Party has not had a positive effect so far on local and regional elections in the coming weeks – including those in Basilicata which will be held tomorrow. In the rest of the opposition Greens-Left Alliance it is at 4.2% with a strong +0.7% since February, and could also gain points thanks to the news of Ilaria Salis’ candidacy. Action by Carlo Calenda is stable at 4%, exactly on the threshold that will be exceeded in the European elections. And the list United States of Europewhich unites Italia viva and +Europa, reaches 4.1%: less than the sum of the two separate parties, but still enough to elect MEPs.
