Emilia-Romagna: boom in spending on assignments and consultancy, Alfredo Sepe (FIALS) asks governor Stefano Bonaccini (PD) for clarity.

An analysis conducted by AdnKronos and the Gazzetta Administrativa della Repubblica Foundation has revealed surprising data regarding spending on freelance assignments and consultancy in the Emilia-Romagna Region. In 2022, the Region spent an impressive total of 5.1 million euros, marking a drastic increase compared to the 824,000 euros of the previous year.

Record Spending, But Where Are the Results?

Although spending on consultancy was significant, the results obtained do not seem to live up to expectations. Emilia-Romagna is in fact positioned at the bottom of the ranking of Italian regions in terms of performance, next to Umbria and ahead of only Calabria and Molise. The analysis highlighted the need to compare regional expenditures with reference benchmarks, often highlighting slight or significant deviations from optimal expenditure levels.

The Words of Alfredo Sepe

Alfredo Sepe, Fials Emilia-Romagna Regional Secretary, expressed concern regarding these data: “The Region led by Governor Bonaccini is the one that has spent the most public money on consultancy. We ask ourselves: why outsource? Aren’t internal administrative resources enough? I believe that Bonaccini must clarify the issue.”
