I love fish 2024: the second edition will surprise you

New location and many culinary and cultural news. It will be full of surprises there second edition of “I Love Fish 2024”the free entry event scheduled at the Leonardo Cenci green route Pian di Massiano di Perugia from Thursday 6th to Sunday 9th June. Four days of taste, celebration, meetings, debates, market, workshops, show cooking, evening musical entertainment, play-educational area for children, a competition dedicated to nursery school students and lots of lake, river and sea fish: the everything to be enjoyed in complete relaxation and immersed in nature. An extraordinary food and wine event, which will offer a selection of over thirty fish dishes, both innovative and linked to tradition. Each dish will be a unique culinary experience, which will be accompanied by stories and reflections on conscious consumption, promoting the importance of the healthiness of fish at the table and its socio-ecological impact, with the involvement of many associative and economic entities linked to the sector fish and more. The event is organized by Verso Association for social promotion in collaboration with Un/Lab Snc with the patronage of the Municipality of Perugia and the Union of Municipalities of Trasimeno.

Planned initiatives

I Love Fish will be the theater for the stories of the best local and national fishing entrepreneurs, for a serious account of Italian fish farming, which is increasingly careful and sustainable. A suitable place to host the fishing cooperatives of the Italian seas, for a two-way dialogue, that of salt and fresh water fishing, so as to bring the sea where there is no sea. But there will also be space for recipes, show cooking, master classes and much more. Among the major partners and speakers who will participate in the informative panels of the event and who will alternate on the two stages of I Love Fish, there will be representatives of: Region of Umbria, Municipality of Perugia, Union of Municipalities of Trasimeno, 3A Technological Park, Almanacco Barbanera, Ada Gourmet, Trasimeno Fishermen’s Cooperative, Stella del Lago Fishermen’s Cooperative, Proloco Chioggia and Sottomarina Fishermen’s Cooperative, Erede Rossi Silvio Itticoltura, Ittica Tranquilli, Cherubini Troticulture, Bolsena Lake Biodistrict, Preschools of the Perugia Territory, University of Flavors Perugia, University for Foreigners of Perugia, Colli del Trasimeno Wine Route, Etruscan-Roman Wine Route, Cantico Wine Route, Sagrantino Route, DOP Umbria Oil Route, Eurofishmarket, blog “Inform so as not to take the bait ”, Valentina Tepedino (Veterinary Medicine), Mirko Revoyera (Storytellers of the sea).

Space for fishing cooperatives which, over the years, have demonstrated their ability to transform the oldest activity, in line with current challenges, which also see them engaged in new projects linked to the transformation of the catch, up to a gastronomic proposal from the lake to the table. Initiatives are planned with the Trasimeno Fishermen’s Cooperative and the Proloco Chioggia and Sottomarina Fishermen’s Cooperative which will offer two much-loved recipes from the Venetian tradition.

Europa River. The cultural program of I Love Fish offers a focus on the culture of freshwater fish present not only in Italy but also in Europe. In this context, the 3A Technology Park of Umbria will strengthen those stories that highlight the projects linked to the protection of biodiversity and the presence of guests from some European countries, so as to enrich the experience offered to visitors.

The right wine and oil. The collaboration with the Wine and Oil Routes of Umbria has been confirmed, for an all-round vision of the interesting regional gastronomic world. The central stage will feature the master classes conducted by the sommeliers of the Strade dei Vini e dell’Olio for a journey of knowledge in pairing the dishes offered at the event with the best regional wines and oils.

There will also be universities at the service of taste. Collaborations with the University for Foreigners and the University of Flavors of Perugia are active to authoritatively expand the historical gastronomic story of I Love Fish. The professors will be entrusted with cultural itineraries linked to local identity, with historical and gastronomic insights, which will lead us into a world of taste for which Italy is famous throughout the world. For the University for Foreigners, Professor Emore Paoli will propose historical literature and recipes which will be the protagonists of the show cooking by chef Polito of the Locanda del Capitano. A lesson is planned for the University of Flavors of Perugia on the conservation techniques of freshwater and sea fish products throughout history, conducted by Professor Marino Marini, professor of Food History and Culture and traditional Italian Cuisine, with a cooking demonstration by chef Catia Ciofo.

Also planned is a special appointment with Blackbeard, author of the most famous Almanac and Calendar in Italy since 1762, entitled “Pisces, the cycles of the stars and the moon” and a meeting with Ada Stifani, starred chef (Michelin Star 2024) of the restaurant Ada of Perugia.

I Love Fish will involve the best local restaurants and hosts those gastronomic realities that represent the all-round world of fish cuisine. Will be present: Osteria Rosso di Sera a zonzo, La Locanda dei Pescatori del Trasimeno, Osteria Tinca’nto, La Vecchia Frittoria, Proloco Chioggia e Sottomarina, Proloco Ars Badiola, Proloco Villa Pitignano, Martana Ittica, Lago di Bolsena, F.lli Maurizi Montalto di Castro Pescheria Restaurant, Typical Mediterranean Taranto, Dulcinea Gelateria.

Within the event there will also be a rich selection of products for sale involving excellent local productions, to be able to replicate the dishes tasted at home and to get to know the best zero kilometer production companies. To date, the following will be present in the Market Area: Leo Bongusto, Pepeleu, Apicoltura Galli, Genial Gem, La Contessa Tartufi, Redox Life, Alagna & Spanò Stocco di Mammola, Il Podere della Quercia, Azienda Agricola F.lli Marconi.

Space for children. There are many initiatives that will involve the little ones starting from “Let’s feed the future”, the contest aimed at children from nursery schools in Perugia which consists in the creation of large cardboard fish, decorated with waste and recycled materials. The large decorated fish will then be displayed during the event and the schools will be rewarded with educational materials and game kits created on the theme of regional artistic works; the most deserving will receive Gift Cards offered by the Quasar Village shopping center. The theme of recycling will be proposed again within the event with workshops on the theme “Here is the sea we want”. And then again “Glu glu stories of the sea”, a theatrical afternoon by and curated by Mirko Revoyera. The Saturday afternoon of I Love Fish offers a theatrical show for children aged 6 to 10, created and curated by a multifaceted artist like Mirko Revoyera, an actor and storyteller who will take children on a journey from the Sargasso Sea to the Plicenic Sea of the Valley of the Calanchi. There will also be a play area always available, adjacent to the area dedicated to gastronomic offerings. It will be entrusted to the professionals of Ideatattiva who will offer wooden construction games for all ages. An important activity on food education dedicated to children is also planned.
