A digital acceleration that promises a real impact on waste collection and cleaning in Florence. Through the strengthening of the app, the new website and technological equipment for 400 operators, from today Alia undertakes to remove waste abandoned in the streets within 3 hours, in the centre, or 6 hours, outside, from the moment of reporting by the citizen. With the same system, and the same times, you can request the collection of paper and cardboard in the centre.
The “revolution” with the App
Palazzo Vecchio and Alia announce «an unprecedented war on abandonments with impressive guarantees on withdrawal times».
Words of the mayor Dario Nardella to describe the project implemented by the investee company that manages the waste cycle in the 58 Municipalities of the Ato Centro (Florence-Prato-Pistoia): «A revolution, focused on the digitalisation of services. In this way Florence becomes the most efficient and fastest city in Italy in the collection of waste and paper in the historic center.” The president of Alia Multiutility, Lorenzo Perra, explains: «Our investigation has shown how the abandonment of waste and small and large gestures of daily incivility cost Alia, and therefore the community, around 20 million euros a year».
The fulcrum of the operation is «Aliapp», the smartphone app launched by Alia which adds two more to already active features such as booking the collection of bulky waste and scanning products to understand where to throw them. The main one is the possibility of reporting abandoned rubbish by sending a photo and GPS geolocation on the street to Alia’s control room who will in turn task one of the 400 operators equipped with smartphones with the removal, with the team of workers called to clean up the area indicated in the arc maximum of 3 hours within the UNESCO area and 6 hours in all other areas of Florencethen sending the confirmation to the citizen who reported.
Card collection on demand
The other new feature is the on-demand collection service for paper and cardboard in the center of Florence even outside of door-to-door days; through «Aliapp» you can request, every day 24 hours a day, rapid and extra-scheduled collection which will take place within 3 hours of booking.
«Very concrete actions and a new model that Alia has defined to respond to the different needs and rhythms of the city. It is a work of closeness to users: we have also simplified the use of keys for the bins through the app”, underlines the greenery councilor Andrea Giorgio. «We continue on the path of innovation, one of the distinctive features of the Multiutility. We have the ambition to redesign the user experience by making the costs of the service more efficient”, concludes Alia CEO Alberto Irace.
