Tourists will also pay for it

PALERMO – The Tari in Palermo will increase, although less than expected. The resolution that will set the waste tax rates for 2024 is ready and which the city council will have to approve by the end of the month: all things considered, Palazzo delle Aquile will have to collect almost 130 million euros compared to the 124 in 2023.

4% increases

An increase of around 4% which is far from the first hypotheses which spoke of a 30 million blow. The administration led by Roberto Lagalla has in fact tried to cut out an increase as much as possible which, given the galloping inflation and the ongoing international crises, was still taken for granted.

For Rap 115 million

In the end Rap will have to “settle” for 115 million, another 11 will be used by the Municipality and finally 12 to cover inflation. In total it is 138 million, a sum from which however seven million must be deducted between state contributions for schools and recovery of tax evasion and another two that the mayor will obtain thanks to an increase in the tourist tax (which will become three in 2025). So the figure reaches 129.9 million, of which two thirds are paid by domestic users (families) and the rest by non-domestic users (businesses).

A move, that of the former rector, was practically forced: increasing the Tari in a city that does not shine for cleanliness, and moreover on the eve of the European Championships, would have caused more than one discontent among the people of Palermo, of whom one in three already does not pay or pay less than you should.

Green light for PEF

The Srr gave the green light to the economic and financial plan and carried out the calculations based on the parameters imposed by Arera, the regulatory authority for energy, networks and the environment: since 2018, in fact, it is no longer individual municipalities that establish how much the Tari weighs but third parties who avoid unjustified increases. A mechanism that on the one hand favors taxpayers but, on the other, gets local authorities into trouble as they have to cover costs with a blanket that is often too short.
