The 46th edition of the “StraTaranto” was presented, the popular foot race that the Municipality of the Ionian capital has included in the program of sporting events scheduled for this season and which will be held tomorrow morning.
Another great event which confirms the maximum attention and constant commitment of the organization led by mayor Rinaldo Melucci for the promotion and diffusion of sporting activities in the area. In fact, encouraging citizens to practice sports for free, thanks also to the collaboration of companies in the sector, is one of the priorities of the Administration which has allocated around 300 thousand euros to pursue this result. Illustrating the organizational aspects of the event were, among others, the president of the Taras Running Sports Association, Salvatore Lomartire; the commander of the Svam, Colonel Alessandro Del Buono (who highlighted the values that sport and the military environment have in common: discipline, loyalty and sacrifice) and the deputy mayor and councilor for Economic Development, Tourism and Sport, Gianni Azzaro, who expressed the great satisfaction of the municipal administration for having contributed to the creation of what is the longest running competition for the city.
“The “StraTaranto – declared the deputy mayor Azzaro – represents one of the most important events for our community, one of the events that required great institutional collaboration between the Municipality and the Air Force, which we intend to thank for the maximum availability shown in allowing a part of the race can take place within the Svam. Heartfelt thanks also go to our technical offices, to the Local Police, to the municipal councilor Bianca Boshnjaku, who is responsible for improving the quality of life and city safety, and to the participating companies such as Kyma Ambiente, which will take care of cleaning the route , Kyma Servizi, which will have the task of cordoning off and securing the areas in which the athletes will be engaged, and Kyma Mobilità, which will not fail to provide its service.
This year too – added Azzaro – there will be temporary limitations on traffic and parking, but an attempt has been made to limit the inconvenience for citizens. For example, along Corso Umberto there will not be the removal of all cars, barriers will be placed to allow the race to proceed normally. We believe that these sacrifices are well repaid especially by the return of visibility that can be achieved. Events like the “StraTaranto” one serve not only to spread the practice of sport and the values that sport transmits. This event, to which we are very attached on an emotional level, is another opportunity to promote our territory both because the athletes who compete will have the opportunity to appreciate our scenic, historical and artistic beauties, and because there will be economic benefits. We will continue to work on all this by virtue of the path towards next year, which sees Taranto as a European city of Sport, and
