“Our wine is a value”

Mirko Carloni, president of the Chamber’s agriculture commission, what do you think of the latest edition of Vinitaly?

“Wine is a fundamental pillar for the country’s economy, having a notable impact on GDP and on employment and exports: we are talking about 7.7 billion euros on the trade balance at national level, while the cellars generate 18, 8 billion euros and their visitors spend 13% more than ordinary tourists.”

The success of the Marche wineries?

“It was sensational, highlighted by a massive participation of over 8,000 visitors and the opening of more than 700 bottles of wine, a sign of the growing interest in the region’s wines. This enthusiasm was reinforced by the significant presence of operators in the sector and international buyers, as well as a lively debate on the future of oenology which highlighted the potential and innovation of Marche wines. The commitment of the IMT and the Consorzio Vini Piceni in organizing a collective exhibition for 49 wineries. has also guaranteed extensive exposure to small and medium-sized businesses, valorising all 16 denominations of the territory. Marche means quality, sustainability and an exceptional mix of quality wineries, with attentive and unique producers. Let’s not forget the very important work that councilor Andrea Antonini is doing, with passion, dedication and heart for our beloved Marche.

The role of the wine tourism that you launched?

“The law on wine tourism approved in the Marche region represents a significant step forward for the sector, similar to the success recorded in Veneto, where wine tourism contributed to a 20% increase in tourism in 2023. This law aims to promote culture of wine and tourism, through incentives for wineries, infrastructure improvements and marketing campaigns. Attractive wine tourism routes are designed to enhance the local wine tradition, improving the tourist experience and stimulating economic development. Collaboration between the public sector and private sector is essential to optimize resources and create high-quality experiences that attract international visitors, supporting the local economy and strengthening the image of the region on a global level. Wine is not simply a product of the grape, but it is a territory, a heart and customs. In the face of those who would like to banish it from our tables with a maneuver in Brussels”.
