(L)ode to the virtues of the dandelion: the “Zicoria FestiVal di Sole” returns to Val di Rabbi

Abundance. Of names, recipes and, above all, beneficial properties. Virtues – culinary and healing – that elevate the dandelionmaking it a worthy protagonist of an ad hoc review: lo “Zicoria FestiVal di Sole”, scheduled from Thursday 25 April to Wednesday 1 May in Val di Rabbiwithin the Trentino side of the Stelvio National Park.

Excursions, cooking workshops, tastings and themed dinners characterize the fourth edition of the event dedicated to wild chicory and other herbs more or less widespread in the Solandra valley.

Dandelion, dogtooth, dandelion, meadow sunflower (in addition to zicoria, in the dialect of the inhabitants): there are various (and curious) ways to call this very special plant.

The list of its benefits is equally extensive, but much more useful. For body, organism, soul and mind. Dandelion, in fact, drains, purifies and detoxifies, stimulates diuresis, promotes digestion and reduces stress: medicinal virtues known since ancient times and exploited with the use of roots, petals and leaves.

But the potential of zicoria is widely exploited even in the kitchen: thanks to its slightly spicy flavour, it is used in many ways, from appetizers to desserts (including drinks).

Visitors will have the opportunity to savor its particular taste in initiatives organized in collaboration with local farms, taverns and restaurants.

Not just cooking, however. In fact, the event also includes activities that will allow you to discover and appreciate the countless qualities of the dandelion.

Among these, the visit to the ancient Ruatti mill followed by a self-production laboratory with zicoria and other herbs; there collection of zicoria flowers (together with an expert naturopath) which will be used to prepare themed dishes and recipes, but also to paint special paintings. Proof of how the event is designed for the whole family. There will also be musical moments, including DJ sets and live concerts by cover bands.

«With this event we don’t want to highlight just one product, but rather the whole group of people who with competence, dedication, respect and passion have contributed to making it so characteristic and identifying for our territory: a community-driven event for the community and visitors, who attend in ever-increasing numbers each year» explains the director of ApT Val di Sole, Fabio Sacco.

The “Zicoria FestiVal di Sole” is part of the rich calendar of “April Sweet Blossom”an exhibition (scheduled until 2 May) organized by the Strada della Mela e dei Sapori delle Valli di Non and di Sole (an association that brings together farmers, restaurateurs, agritourists and artisans created with the aim of protecting and highlighting the food and wine tradition of the valley solandra) during the apple blossom period, precisely to celebrate this spectacular phenomenon that repeats itself every year.
