Trapani, it really seems like the right time for radiotherapy. There is financing

For radiotherapy in Trapani there would be the necessary funding from the Region, this was communicated by the M5S MP from Trapani Cristina Ciminnisi but also by the Fratelli d’Italia MP Giuseppe Bica. When the topic of Sicilian and local politics is radio therapy, one must necessarily have more than a few doubts given that for 15 years we have been hearing announcements and promises, which have fallen into oblivion, given that it has never been realised. This time it seems that the funds are there. (Here is one of tp24’s insights on radiotherapy in Trapani).

«The radiotherapy of Trapani will find financial coverage for a part in the extraordinary program of public investments in healthcare pursuant to article 20 (L. 67/88) and for the other part, as we anticipated, in the corporate budget of the ASP of Trapani».
This was announced by the regional deputy, Cristina Ciminnisi (M5S), and it is one of the pieces of news that emerged in the EU Commission, during the hearing on the planning and implementation of the PNRR for healthcare interventions in Sicily.

«However, there is no good news for the new hospital in Alcamo, which was at the center of the debate of an extraordinary municipal council last March 25, for which what we already feared emerged: there is no coverage for the intervention for which requires an investment of over 30 million euros”, states the M5S regional deputy.

«If on the one hand the news of radiotherapy does justice to the citizens of the Trapani area who have been waiting for this important health service for 15 years – says Ciminnisi –, on the other we cannot help but express concern for the cut of over 139 million euros in healthcare Siciliana arranged by the National Government as part of an overall reduction of over one billion euros on the PNRR. Minister Fitto and the Meloni Government go straight with confidence blows and bring down a real ax on the health of Sicilians.”

«Some concerns – concludes the MP from Trapani – remain regarding the implementation times and the next steps for radiotherapy in Trapani. By 2025, according to the general direction of strategic planning of the Region, we should see the opening of the construction site. Our attention remains on radiotherapy, on the next steps and on the procedures, so that the times envisaged today by the commission are respected”.

Regional deputy Giuseppe Bica – “An important step forward for healthcare in Trapani: thanks to the commitment of the Schifani government, radiotherapy will soon be a reality in the “S. Antonio Abate” hospital in Trapani. Finally, after years of waiting, Trapani will have access to radiotherapy directly in the area. The project, recognized as among the best in the sector, was entirely financed with a budget of 10 million euros. But the good news doesn’t end there: the procurement procedure is at an advanced stage, with the works expected to be delivered by September 2025.” This was announced today by Giuseppe Bica, regional deputy of Fratelli d’Italia, after a hearing on the planning and implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) for health interventions in Sicily, held at the EU Commission.
In parallel with the approval of the project for Trapani, attention is focused on the new hospital in Alcamo.
“As regards Alcamo, the government is aware of the need for partial financial coverage for the hospital project. Currently, the regional budget is being evaluated to identify the best options. Among these, the possibility of building the hospital in functional phases is also being considered, to guarantee a timely and efficient solution” – continues Bica. “I will continue to closely monitor progress and act with determination to ensure that the health needs of the area are met” – concludes Giuseppe Bica, regional deputy.
