The goal in the second half proved decisive in breaking the deadlock in a complex match.

Lazio continues its winning streak, beating Genoa 1-0 after an emotional match.

Biancocelesti and rossoblu took to the pitch in search of important points at Marassi, but left the pitch after 45 minutes with nothing accomplished.

In fact, there were different opportunities in the first half of the game, with the players of the two teams inspired but imprecise and, at times, hasty in looking for solutions in front of goal.

The best chances of the first half were almost all of the home team’s: after just four minutes Caleb Ekuban opened the ball with a shot just wide of the post, then it was Mateo Retegui’s turn.

The Biancocelesti’s first signal, however, came in the 26th minute, when Felipe Anderson tried to mock Josep Martinez without success, narrowly missing the target.

The clearest opportunity, however, came just before the end, once again starting from a rossoblu counterattack. Ekuban, Retegui and Gudmundsson managed to outwit the opposing defence, finding themselves three against two just a stone’s throw from the goal. The striker born in 1994, however, preferred to shoot rather than serve his teammates, chipping the post and thus wasting a great opportunity.

Another negative note in the first half for Igor Tudor’s team was the injury of Manuel Lazzari, who was forced to leave the pitch to Elseid Hysaj after the half hour mark.

Lazio grows in the second half

Ekuban’s mistake cost Genoa dearly, because Lazio, who returned to the field in the second half, were a much more aggressive and cynical team in front of goal, hunting for the winning goal to straighten out a difficult period.

The Biancocelesti, in fact, grew more and more as the minutes passed, making themselves dangerous with Felipe Anderson and Luis Alberto on several occasions and forcing Martinez to make a decisive intervention at the hour mark to keep the result at 0-0 .

However, it only took another seven minutes for Lazio to break the deadlock. It was Luis Alberto who scored the 1-0 goal, who, despite lacking the captain’s armband after the events of recent weeks, once again proved himself to be a leader, as well as a decisive player. After the goal, the Spaniard celebrated by pointing to the crest on the shirt, sending a clear signal to the club.

The goal inevitably slowed down the pace of the match, which had been very heated up until then.

Tudor’s men successfully managed to intercept all the home team’s attempts to regain the equalizer, without ever insisting too much in the attacking phase.

Only shortly before the 90th minute did the match suddenly flare up, with the two teams gradually gaining strength, giving the Ferraris crowd a lively and exciting final.

The opportunities on both sides, however, were not enough to change the result: Lazio regained the Champions League zone, awaiting the missing matches of Roma and Atalanta.
