«Ex Terme Inps: the project continues»

After the attack by Angelo Russo and the architects Alfredo Passeri and Maurizio Errigo, who called a press conference to denounce the state of degradation of many cultural monuments of Viterbo, in particular the portion of the Macchina di Santa Rosa “Symphony of Strings” located in the roundabout between Poggino and Teverina, and many infrastructures at stake, the councilor for public works Stefano Floris examines one of the public works abandoned for decades in Viterbo, the former INPS spa.

«On the former INPS spa – says Floris – I can say that it is not a big unfinished project but it is one of those projects waiting to be realized. We need to revisit the spa issue but, as we know, the building we are talking about is 50% co-owned by the Municipality of Viterbo and half by the Lazio Region. In recent months we have been talking with the Region to take ownership or, at least, find a shared way to bring about together a definitive turning point for that area which, in addition to those premises, contains 4-5 hectares of land that can be used to support the Spa ».

A difficult but possible situation and the councilor for public works Stefano Floris, although not wanting any controversy with the harsh words of the three architects Russo, Passeri and Errigo, wants to have his say and starts by talking about one of the main works which, since decades, have been waiting for an answer on reuse for public purposes.

So the latest news regarding the Ex Terme Inps: «We carried out an inspection about 20 days ago – continues Floris – at the ex Terme Inps with the technicians of the Lazio Region in which we realized the conditions of the building which, obviously, is particularly dilapidated. The investment to be made is quite important and its future is closely linked to the possibility of using water: that of the Gigliola spring and possibly that of the Bullicame.”

Something is moving, therefore, but the councilor wants concreteness and to work towards conclusive facts.

«For now we are leaving the water issue on hold – Floris further specifies – as the intervention that the Municipality of Viterbo will have to carry out on the Zitelle spring for the reconditioning of the same could have a positive influence on the Gigliola well and, therefore, the prospects that could open are currently unknown. With a significant recovery of water flow.

For this reason, I would not define the work as unfinished but one of those works to which we are giving priority and which sooner or later, during our council, will manage to take shape with an interesting project that can give prospects to the city’s thermalism”.

Regarding the Symphony of Strings monument, the Macchina di Santa Rosa by Angelo Russo, which has been cited as an example of the degradation of administrative action, both councilor Emanuele Aronne and Stefano Floris, urged to intervene, prefer not to comment because “I respond with facts – the councilor for the quality of urban spaces Emanuele Aronne said tersely – there is no need to put other words”.
