And it could not have been otherwise, given that the Asti party directly expressed the vice president of the Region Fabio Carosso. The former mayor of Coazzolo will have another mayor at his side: Silvia Ferraris, mayor of Castello di Annone. A country that has recently had to deal with the immigration problem on the front line, hosting the hub in the former air force base.

The secretary and deputy presented the two candidates Andrea Giaccone: “The League has guided Piedmont, through the vice-presidency of the region in a difficult period, marked by the pandemic crisis. Despite everything, the challenges have been managed in the best possible way. As a party we think that the Cirio Council has worked well, and that it has brought the territory back at the center with an organization that also looks at the “province” as the driving force of the region”

“The region has been close to us in all the problemsand – he explained Silvia Ferraris– I come from a small town that has had problems with the flow of immigrants linked to the hub of our territory: we are not against reception, but this must be followed by integration projects. In the village we have organized teams of volunteers who take care of cleaning, the results are good. The synergy of the Region is fundamental for countries like ours, with little tourist vocation and off the beaten track: I have chosen to study abroad but return to this territory so as not to interrupt the bond I have with my roots, I will try to bring the my experience also in the Region”

Instead, the presentation of Fabio Calosso’s candidacy is entirely in the wake of continuity: “Without my party I could not have become vice president. In fact, they were not thanks to me, but to the exceptional electoral result of five years ago. The people of Asti put their trust in us and I tried to get busy for all those territories that were a little more marginal and neglected by a Turin-centric policy. We have received millions of messages in these five years and we have responded to them all. We are satisfied with the great work done and we are ready to carry it forward… The most difficult thing, in this mandate, was to be close to the territory and give concrete answers to the local administrators who were looking for them”.

Former hospital: we have interests from entrepreneurs

Carosso’s declarations, made during the administrative election campaign, for a broad project of redevelopment of the former hospital. “In this time we have not remained idle – explains – and although Carosso “does not sell “hospitals” to anyone, because he is not a real estate agent, we have created the conditions so that the structure can be attractive to a buyer. I have had several conversations with entrepreneurs interested in being able to create hospitality-type structures, perhaps even with residential structures linked to the nearby university. This has been possible because in the last five years we have worked to make the area attractive for tourist flows, and the latest numbers demonstrate this. This creates the conditions for a hotel structure to be built in the city that perhaps there was no need for before. Before investing, companies want to have numbers in hand for the related industries.”

From this point of view, despite some political differences at national level on relations with the Chinathe League supports the mayor’s trips to the country of the Rising Sun (the last one is scheduled for these days ed.): “Going to look for connections is always an important opportunity, from the point of view of local impacts” says Giaccone.

Abstention on the abortion agenda

What’s missing, second Carosso there is still a little courage in administering: “an important urban plan for the city of Asti is a reasoning that we all have to face, as is the south-west connection capable of relieving the city of cars. Today’s courage is needed to live better tomorrow and create the conditions to truly become a great tourist area.”

On national issues, the League cuts short: “Salvini’s leadership? It’s not under discussion, there will be a congress. We hope to achieve a better result than the policies” – explains Giaccone, who was among the League’s abstentions on the agenda on abortion: “Our party provides for freedom to vote on ethical issues. On law 194 I am for the absolute free choice of women. The State can intervene – in my opinion – with economic aid, only if this decision is motivated by reasons linked to the financial situation “.
