Staggered salaries for 100 thousand blue overalls in Piedmont. Here’s what the unions think – Turin News

Nothing to be done, at least for the moment, for the contract renewal of metalworkers. The unions Fim, Fiom and Uilm they asked for higher salaries than 280 euros per month in the face of inflationary increases. But Federmeccanica said no: «In the hypothesis of a platform, evident deviations emerge with respect to the confederal rules and the collective agreement for the sector, which we trust will be removed with the dissolution of the reserve». With these few lines Federmeccanica and Assistal they made the first move.

But the unions aren’t there. Much less the Piedmontese ones, considering the importance of the industry for Turin and Piedmont.
“Are approximately 100 thousand workers with metalworker contracts in Piedmont and the platform we proposed was voted for by 98% of workers. Now the other party cannot pretend nothing has happened, we need to discuss and find answers through mediation” declares the general secretary Fiom Turin, Edi Lazzi. “We need to adjust the salary increase based on inflation, and this is the time to start the negotiation” comments the general secretary Fim Torino, Rocco Cutrì. «Federmeccanica always says no but we are not at all worried about this response» underlines the general secretary Uilm Turin, Luigi Paone. «The metalworking sector – he adds – is of fundamental importance for Piedmont and Turin, we are talking about workers from important companies such as Leonardo, Avio, Ska and Denso, just to name a few. It’s time to sit at the table and mediate for the good of the country.”

In short, the renewal appears particularly necessary also to deal with the galloping layoffs in the automotive sector. It concerns related industries but not the Stellantis and Iveco world in which the Ccnl contract is in force.

The 280 euros requested by metalworkers, according to the companies, would definitely go beyond the Ipca-Nei (Istat forecasts speak of 2.9, 2 and 2% in 2024, ’25 and ’26, which translates into around 140 euros). They say at Federmeccanica: «There will be three key principles in our discussions: respect for the rules in force; the distribution of wealth where it is produced and after it has been produced; the convergence between sustainability and competitiveness”. With the latest contract the metalworkers will put around 300 euros in their pockets, of which 130 is estimated in the June tranche.
