Florence, “good first” for Zap the Lap and Fabrizio Bosso

Of Simone Tofani

FLORENCE – Good first one, one would say in these cases, and how could it be otherwise for Zap the Lap and Fabrizio Bosso.

The new project born within Dirotta su Cuba is a studied mix of Funky and Jazz, which brought these great artists closer together during the various tours made and thanks to the special guest Fabrizio Bosso it came to life.

It all took place within the four walls of the Florentine recording studio “La Sala Del Rosso” last year, with the release of their first album “The First Lap” on November 24, 2023.

This production is a rediscovery of Seventies musicality, a combination of Jazz expertly mixed with Funk and Soul, with a pinch of electric pepper and synth that feels very “Old School” and whose traces had been somewhat lost in the musical panorama modern. But now it’s time for the Funky-Band to take another important step, to enchant the packed audience of the Nuovo Teatro Lippi in Florence with their groove, which last night saw them perform live for the first time, during the “Brillante ”.

Fast-paced rhythms and clean virtuosity, never out of place, as can be expected from artists of this caliber, manage to blend together their technical and improvisational skills, giving the audience almost two hours of pure musical pleasure between solos and choral moments.

On stage we find Francesco “Kekkone” Cherubini (drums), Andrea De Donato (bass, synth and keyboards), Daniele Vettori (guitar), Marco Caponi (saxophone, keyboards) and Fabrizio Bosso (trumpet), who, having overcome the emotion of bringing this project of theirs is finally out of the studio, they hold the stage with great mastery and that hint of sympathy, with some back and forth between one piece and another.

It has to be said, they have succeeded in what few manage to do, take a great studio album and make it even better during a live performance. And for this, much applause goes to them.
