THE 56TH SALENTO RALLY RUN WITH TELETHON

With just over a month left until the engines start up, the AC Lecce staff continues their incessant work to finalize the final details of the fifty-sixth edition of the Salento Rally which will take place on the roads of the Heel of Italy, the last weekend in May. The rally is also a social commitment, with a contract signed to help the Telethon Foundation in its research program.

Just over a month remains until the ribbon cutting of the fifty-sixth edition of the Salento Rally, one of the longest-running automotive events in Southern Italy. The race organized by the Automobile Club Lecce is once again tinged with the colors of solidarity this year. The president of the organisation, Francesco Sticchi Damiani, has in fact signed an agreement with the Telethon Foundation to combine the car competition with fundraising for scientific research in the fight against rare diseases.

The Salento Rally, which will start from the central Piazza Mazzini in Lecce on May 24th, will be valid for the Italian Rally Trophy and for the Eighth Zone Rally Cup. The two-day motorsport event will also see at the start the historic cars that will participate in the Historic Salento Rally valid for the Fourth Zone Rally Trophy and in the new Salento Historic Regularity Rally, on the streets of Salento, a medium-sized regularity race.

An unmissable event which has received the patronage of the Municipality of Lecce and which has now gone beyond the confines of the sporting competition to become part of the local culture and traditions: an opportunity to enhance the territory between sporting and automotive excellence and a driving force for promotion tourist.

“As has already happened in the past, we are very pleased to be able to collaborate and support the Telethon Foundation – said the president of AC Lecce Francesco Sticchi Damiani – the Rally Village in Piazza Mazzini in Lecce, which with its start and finish ceremonies will embrace the participants of our beloved rally and the Pista Salentina, which represents the operational fulcrum of the entire event, will host the stands dedicated to the Telethon initiatives to promote the noble aims of the foundation. The automotive sport which represents technological innovation will therefore move in synergy with scientific research”.

The words of the president of the Salento AC are echoed by those of the provincial representatives of the Foundation.

“There are rare genetic diseases which, due to their rarity, are forgotten, neglected by large public and industrial investments – said Anna Maria Accoto, provincial coordinator of the Telethon Foundation – rare diseases, even if rare, are more than 6,000 and only in in the province of Lecce there are more than 5,170 cases of children and families who face, fight and live with a rare disease every day. Joining forces and committing ourselves to the Salento area is a great goal of ours. Precisely for this reason, returning to collaborate with the Automobile Club of Lecce is a great honor, and it is a great joy to be part of one of the most important events, the 56th Rally of Salento, of the culture and traditions of our beautiful territory characterized with great sensitivity.”
