Senator Pier Ferdinando Casini guest at the “Literary Meetings”

Fiumicino “Literary meetings” – Senator Pier Ferdinando Casini,
guest at the council chamber of the Municipality of Fiumicino, offered a fascinating overview of Italian political history of the last 40 years, during the presentation of his book “Once upon a time there was politics. The last of the Christian Democrats speaks”, in the presence of the Mayor, Mario Baccini, the President of the City Council, Roberto Severini, the Councilor for Culture, Federica Poggio and the Senator Filippo Sensi.

During the debate, moderated by the journalist Emma Evangelista, crucial themes emerged which have marked Italy’s path from the 1980s to today: from the dynamics of foreign policy to the complex national situation, passing through the comparison between technical governments and democratically elected governments; a large space was dedicated to Christian Democracy, according to the author, once dominant but now relegated to the past, as the changed geopolitical balance, the transformations of the party situation and the socio-cultural changes have now made the DC “history” .

“I was lucky to have met President Casini during my political life who represented growth in my career, in a period in which a high intensity political model existed. – the Mayor underlined at the opening of the debate – Casini is certainly one of the highest positions in our country who has chosen never to go into government but to be, not only a leader, but above all a man of the institutions who, regardless of the scenarios, has always decided to serve the country .” concluded the First Citizen.

The topic of social media and their influence in today’s political scenario was also addressed in the Chamber. “An important communication and information tool that it is right to take advantage of but of which limited and targeted use should be made. Today, web comparison has instead become “an obsession” for some politicians, so much so that it represents a detachment from reality. – highlighted President Casini- The likes do not necessarily convert into votes which, instead, come from real people, creators of their own choices. The electoral process is built through a network of human relationships, linked to the fate of politicians, to which is also added the intervention of social media and advertising. “ he concluded.

“A precious opportunity to reflect on the past, understand the present and project ourselves towards the future, in search of new solutions and political perspectives in a constantly evolving context. – commented the Councilor for Culture, Federica Poggio – We are very proud to have hosted one of the most eminent political figures of our country; an important comparison and an engaging presentation, the one offered by President Casini.”

“A book that is anything but nostalgic despite the title, also interesting as an approach to politics for younger people – underlined the Senator for the PD, Filippo Sensi. – A text that moves as a sort of “double step”, since on the one hand it talks about personal experience, meetings and the various political seasons experienced by our country and, on the other, through this experiential story, the author transmits a manifesto of good politics, an invective against anti-politics and against the idea that we can do without parties”, concluded the Senator.
