Crosetto on the Israel-Iran war

At 4:30 on Friday 19 April (Italian time), Israel launched a attack against theIran in response to what happened over the weekend. In the attack it was hit a military base to Isfahan. Nuclear plants are safe.

I receive constant updates and follow the developments of the situation in the Middle East. With Allies and Partners we are working to avoid further escalation, inviting the parties to exercise moderation so that we do not reach a point of no return.

Crosetto: “Necessary but contained response”

These are Crosetto’s words entrusted to contained to prevent the already very tense situation from degenerating further.

“Israel needs to react, because the ability to deterrence it is a guarantee of survival. The world is trying to direct it on how to react,” Crosetto said on April 18, speaking at a meeting promoted by PwC Italia and Gedi.

“Israel knows it cannot afford to open more fronts, there is already a very serious one which is Hamas. So it can calibrate the response to Iran: I spoke about it with my counterpart who is a reasonable person. He would be a suicide open another front.. […] It is essential that Tel Aviv contains its response,” he added.

Israeli de-escalation against Iran

The Israeli response in the conflict with Iran is influenced by various factors, including the relationship with the USA and the Jewish Passover.

In another speech, Crosetto clarified that Iran’s attack on Israel at the weekend had no harmful consequences thanks to the air shield of the Middle Eastern country which intercepted and shot down “99% of these attacks”.

“We are at what we could call again ‘skirmishes’ – Crosetto had said – even if the Iranian attack, the first in the history of the complicated relationship between Israel and Iran of such a magnitude, was an attack that in any other nation in the world would have had a disastrous effect”.

For Ian Bremmerfounding analyst of Eurasia Groupa geopolitical risk consultancy firm, “the Israeli attack on Iran” on April 19 “is a de-escalation. They had to do something but the action is limited compared to the attack on Damascus which precipitated the crisis.”
