AND Marina Marzia Brambilla the new rector of the University of Milan. Brambilla was elected in the run-off with 1,651 votes compared to the 664 preferences obtained by Luca Solari. She is the first female rector of the University and she will remain in office until 2030. The proclamation took place at the end of the counting of ballots in the university’s main hall. “It took 100 years but we did it”, the immediate comment of the new rector who will lead the university for the next six years. Before being appointed rector, Marina Marzia Brambilla held the position of teacher of German linguistics and vice-rector delegated to Teaching and Student Services.

Priority to the expansion of the right to education

Brambilla won the majority of votes with his program focused on expanding the right to study. Among its objectives, in particular that of extending the non-contribution bracket to guarantee the right to study for students with fewer economic possibilities, supporting the middle classes of families with fairer and more progressive taxation and increasing university residences to encourage access to a greater number of students to help the country, among the last in Europe in terms of number of graduates. Today’s election reaches the third round of voting, after the withdrawal of Gian Luigi Gatta’s candidacy on April 9th ​​and the consequent suppression of the second round.
