Savona, Solemn Chapter for the Bailliage, Italian expression of the Ordre des Chevaliers Bretvins

The Bailliage de Savone, the Italian expression of the Ordre des Chevaliers Bretvins, with the collaboration of the Municipal Administration, organizes a series of initiatives linked to our city in the Sala Rossa of the Municipality of Savona, on the morning of Saturday 20 April. A city that has a special historical bond with the Brittany of the Knights: Louis XII, King of France, husband of the “Petite Brette” Anna, met the Spanish sovereign Ferdinand II in Savona on 26 June 1507, in an international conference which was prelude to the League of Cambrai, while Anne of Brittany herself had diplomatic relations with Felice Della Rovere, daughter of Pope Julius II and her active collaborator.

At the center of the day will be a solemn Chapter, with the welcome and important participation of Dignitaries of the Order from the French “headquarters”, the Connétable Yves CAILLER, lo Chancellor Paul DALON and the Ambassador to Italy Jean-Luc LAMBION. Furthermore, the Chapter will see the enthronement of two new Ladies and two new Knights, invested with equestrian insignia as part of an interesting ceremony that reworks the Renaissance rituals in a “wine” key.

Dressed in full dress, the Bretvins procession will parade through the city streets, preceded by the flag and to the sound of the bagpipes which, thanks to an “authoritative friend”, will accompany the performance of the Hymn of the Order.

Who are the Chevaliers Bretvins

The Ordre des Chevaliers Bretvins was created on 20 May 1948 by citizens of Nantes, winemakers and
traders, at the particular impulse of the family of the Marquises and Counts of Goulaine, with the aim of supporting the economy and products of the Nantes area also through the recovery of historical and cultural aspects. The headquarters of the Order is currently in the Castle of Frémoire, in Vertou. The name of the Order refers to the ancient Knights of Anne, Duchess of Brittany, amicably known as “La Petite Brette”, the little Breton. The founders of the Order added the word “Vin” to “Bret”; hence the term and meaning of “Bretvins” who have become Ambassadors of Muscadet wine throughout the world.
