LARINO. One hundred years after his birth, the Frentana municipal administration, with the active collaboration of the Pro Loco, has organized two moments in memory of the knight Gaetano (Nino) on Sunday 21 April, starting at 5.00 pm, in the usual Freda room of Palazzo Ducale ) Malorni, the artist who passed away in March 2020 who after living in Milan, France for many years had chosen to spend the last years of his life in his hometown. A city that today wants to award him a commendation in his memory “for having distinguished himself in Italy and abroad for his qualities as a writer and his outstanding artistic talents”.

In the Freda room, for the occasion, Adriana, the artist’s daughter who arrived in Larino directly from France, will also be present. With her, moderated by the journalist Nicola De Francesco, Pierluigi Lepore will participate in the meeting who will have the task of remembering the figure of the knight Malorni, the mayor Pino Puchetti who will give the family members the commendation of the city of Frenta, the councilor for culture Iolanda Giusti who will have the opportunity to explain the reasons for the award and the president of the Pro Loco Michele Di Ridolfo.

The celebratory moment will then precede the inauguration of the exhibition of Malorni’s paintings which has been set up in one of the exhibition rooms of the Palazzo Ducale and will remain open until 28 April and can be visited free of charge by the public. On this occasion it will also be possible to purchase a copy of the 1974 book Le Truc, the autobiographical novel with which the artist made himself known in France, Spain as well as naturally in Italy.

Brief notes on Malorni’s life.

(Gaetano) Nino Malorni, was born in Larino in the province of Campobasso. A famous designer first in Milan and then in France, where he arrived in 1957, he would have a brilliant career as a creator of men’s fashion. Self-taught, he is interested in literature and painting. In 1974 he published an autobiographical novel that tells the chaotic life of a man, victim of gambling, Le Truc, in French, best-seller of the summer 1975. He was awarded Knight of the Star of Italian Solidarity in 1976 and Knight of the Italian Republic in 1978. In 1981 he obtained the Lupa di Roma from the Accademia dell’Agrifoglio for his novel Le Truc, translated into Italian. He began painting in 1981 and exhibited his works with notable success both in Italy and France. Since 1991, upon returning to his native country, he dedicates himself almost completely to his favorite activities: writing and painting. He passed away in Larino in March 2020 a few days before his birthday.
