Savona. Double appointment in Savona for paralympic sailing on the weekend of 4 and 5 May with the FIV Zone I championship of the Hansa 303 class. The event is also valid as the fourth stage of the Ligurian regional championship of the class, which follows the stages of Andora , Santa Margherita, Chiavari and will continue at the end of May in Genoa Sestri and in September in La Spezia.

The difference between the two championships is due to the configuration of the FIV Zone I, which does not include La Spezia, inserted in the “enlarged” II Zone of Tuscany due to the greater ease of boats from La Spezia in reaching the regatta fields of the upper Tyrrhenian Sea compared to those of the Ligurian Sea.

Up to three races per day are scheduled, for single and double crews racing together with separate rankings, also open to sailors registered in other regions.

After the technical meeting of the crews with the Race Committee, at 11.30 am on Saturday, the first race is scheduled for 1 pm. On Sunday, however, we plan to go out to sea in the morning.

The titles of Zonal Champions will be awarded only in the singles and doubles flotillas that have reached a minimum of three registered boats of members of the 1st Zone first classified with at least two valid races.

In preparation for the Zonal Championship, in the last weekend of April the Hansa 303 class was involved in the prestigious Livorno Naval Academy Trophy.

This is the story on the Livorno TAN of the Genoese veteran Piero Maresca, this year among the standard bearers of the LNI Savona in singles:
“Saturday 27 April, shore wind at 15-16 knots with big waves for 15 single boats and 4 double boats. I started at the mark with Umberto (Verna, from LNI Chiavari) and at the crossroads we were in front of the group. First mark in sixth/seventh position. I lost downwind and at the second mark I finished 10th. On the second lap I maintained my position. The mark was missing on the finishing line (forgotten…). There were no further tests because a storm with fog came and the jury sent everyone to the ground.”

“Sunday 28 April – he continues -, day of light wind at 5-6 knots. I started the first race attached to the jury boat, with Umberto downwind, and I rounded the windward mark among the top 10, then I lost a couple of positions downwind. On the next lap I held the position. The second race began with a decreasing wind: I made a good start and with a good tack I arrived at the mark with six others, all within a few metres, but the calm came and they sent us all home”.
