ANCONA – The wait is over. A freeze of about four years, then the turning point. Today the tender opens to start the recovery of docks 19, 20 and 21 where the ferries that currently dock from 8 to 10 will be transferred. This maneuver is necessary to free the ancient port from ships in favor, instead, of maxi yachts «which today they are lying at construction sites and could instead be a source of attraction and furnishing for that part of the airport” he states Giacomo Bugarorepresentative of the Municipality in the Port Management Committee.

The investment

A tender that involves an investment of 4.5 million euros (3 million 693 thousand euros the basic value of the contract). The assignment, if there are no appeals or other problems, should arrive within two months. Then the start of the construction site lasting 329 days. The restoration of the docks – an area of 450 linear meters – is divided into two macro interventions. The first concerns the new paving for vehicles to make the area suitable for traffic and the operation of port vehicles, as well as for loading and unloading activities and movement of goods. The second involves the construction of rainwater disposal systems.

The interventions

The operation will also be an opportunity to prepare underground services preparatory to the subsequent electrification of the mooring docks, a move consistent with the objectives of energy sustainability. As mentioned, four years of waiting for the race. A considerable period of time dictated by bureaucratic delays which – fortunately – now represent the past. «Passed thanks to the input dictated by President Garofalo (top of the port authority, ed.) – states Bugaro – who stirred things up to arrive at the tender notice». The manager assigned by Mayor Silvetti to the port management committee has no doubts: «This work is an added value for the future of the port». A first step towards another infrastructure that would lead to a decidedly more structural change.

The target

«The fundamental goal is the creation of the Peninsula» Bugaro makes clear. «It is the optimal landing place for the port of the future» he specifies. But in order to complete the infrastructure that would lead the Doric airport to make a substantial leap in quality, “we need to proceed step by step”, the manager holds back. In the sights, first of all, the construction of platforms 28 and 28: «They will be the footing on which the Peninsula will rest – explains Bugaro -. Nine hundred meters of linear quay: a vast area where the traffic coming from ships can be supported.” The direction of the transformation of the port of Ancona is entrusted to a consultation table where Bugaro himself is often present. «The governor Acquaroli, the mayor Silvetti and the president of the Port Authority Garofalo are periodically in meetings – says Bugaro – and there is a unity of intent which is a harbinger of good results. These works, which had been at a standstill for some time, are finally starting to get underway in 2024.” It is impossible to define the time horizon for the maxi infrastructure today, but for Bugaro the best conditions have been lined up to achieve the objective. Another central theme: «Freeing the port from what remains of the Tubimar – he continues -. Then start changing the port’s master plan and open up to luxury shipbuilding. A very important sector that needs to be helped, as it generates wealth in the area.” Bugaro sounds the alarm: «There is a need for spaces and they are needed urgently».
