Reclamation, Rizzo is back and invites Voce “not to fish in troubled waters”

CROTONE – “In this battle it is essential to be united in defense of the values of life and health. Diversions are only useful to those who want to escape their responsibilities and allow them to profit at the expense of citizens, to the detriment of our city.” This is supported by the former regional environmental councilor Antonella Rizzo, regarding the attempt to eliminate the ban on disposing of waste from industrial reclamation in Calabria and in the Crotone area in particular. Rizzo returned to making statements after a long period of silence and after having joined the ‘Fuori i velEni’ committee whose promoters also include the former governor of Calabria Mario Oliverio who, together with her, was among the main proponents.

“Finally – adds the former councilor in a note – after years of silence the issue of the reclamation of the Crotone industrial site is being addressed in a serious and determined manner. This is done far from facile populism, from the demagogic tones typical of the new Masaniellos, from the mystification of otherwise irrefutable data.

This is done with a Committee that brings together women and men of different political, institutional and cultural orientations and paths, but united by the common good of protecting health and defending our territory. In this important and demanding battle we do not start from scratch, but from a fundamental point established by the decision-making services conference of October 2019 held at the Ministry of the Environment”.

Rizzo recalls that “that Services Conference, thanks to the active role of the Calabria region, with president Mario Oliverio, of the Municipality and the Province of Crotone led by Ugo Pugliese, made the Paur constraint its own, i.e. the removal and delivery of poisons to authorized landfills outside Crotone and Calabria. I would like to proudly remind you – he adds – that the document which arrived after three years of intense discussion with Eni also bears my signature. It was a battle with a multinational that is certainly not used to the synergy between the institutions that for the first time appeared united in the defense of the territory and the health of citizens”.

“Other than poison hill” writes the former councillor, with reference to the attempt of the then Syndial to transfer the waste from the sea landfills to the former Pertusola and former Agriculture areas and disguise them in green, which was then overturned with the obligation to take them out region. “The truth is that today we are trying in every way to remove that very constraint – he reiterates – so much so that it was necessary to set up a Committee, which I joined, to prevent this from happening”. I also like to remember that at that time a legality protocol was also signed between the Municipality, Region, Province and the employers’ and trade unions’ associations in the Prefecture to prevent attempts by organized crime to infiltrate the reclamation interventions”.

Mayor Voce is in the sights of the revived Rizzo, who she accuses of trying to “fish in the dark by trying to create misinformation and confusion”, when “due to the role she holds at the helm of the city” she should instead “worry about enforcing those decisions and force Eni to comply with the decisions taken, rather than arguing with us. I would like to remind you that the counterparty is not us, but its name is Eni and every political and institutional effort and action should be concentrated in this direction”.
