‘Modena, non-self-sufficient elderly and disabled people are a priority’ – Politics

MVP: ‘Public resources have increased but not the services offered, this is unacceptable’

For years Lapressa.it has offered free and independent information to its readers without any type of public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not sufficient. For this reason we ask those who read us and follow us every day to give us, if they wish, a contribution based on their possibilities. Even a small support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of people from Modena and Emilia-Romagna who read us every day, is fundamental.

‘Resources for non-self-sufficient people have increased by 10.6% in two years because you can’t see it in the services offered? For example, the availability for elderly people in residential homes has not increased by a single public place. And this despite the fact that, six years ago, Mayor Muzzarelli had promised 4 new CRAs with over 250 new places. If Muzzarelli has failed, Massimo Mezzetti’s Program-Pact for Modena is even more worrying. In his program Mezzetti avoids any commitment and speaks generically of “…a city that is closer, fairer, more attentive… to respond to the needs linked to non-self-sufficiency, implementing the network of integrated, semi-residential and residential home services…” All vague, all with verbs declined in the infinitive. Yet the numbers speak for themselves: in the city over 300 elderly people are on the waiting list for the CRA and 3000 people in Modena suffer from mental illnesses, mostly elderly people with Alzheimer’s and with the aging of the population this will increase.

Thus Modena Volta Pagina-Unione Popolare-Possibile in a note.

‘If we didn’t have the resources we would understand but that’s not the case. Our research shows that, from 2021 to 2023, the funding given to the ASL of Modena for CRA, day centers for the elderly, care allowances, home care for social and health care and for the disabled grew from 76.5 to 84.6 million, +10.6%. Not only. In 2021, as many as 6 million of the resources received in previous years had not been invested in services. Why don’t services seem to have been increased? Furthermore, why does the new CRA Gorrieri appear more like a hospital than a home in which to spend the last years of life? What happens? Will only elderly people in serious conditions be assisted? Once upon a time, helping the weakest was a priority for the Municipality, but no longer. In recent years, in addition to the resources received from the Region, has the Municipality also increased its investments? And if not, why? What are the different reasons? Furthermore, why is there little control over whether contracts are in compliance with regional accreditation regulations?’

‘Assisting non-self-sufficient people is a necessary act of civility. As mayor I would commit to investing to make a leap in the quantity and quality of services. Enough, for example with painful meals, let’s cut the waiting lists. The Municipality will have to regain control of 5 now privatized CRAs and increase the available public places as well as review assistance for the disabled. Enough with the total delegation to the private sector. Let’s change’ – concludes mayoral candidate Claudio Tonelli.
