The plane had left from Sandro Pertini airport in Turin and was headed to Lamezia Terme. Sagat: «Doctor and nurse immediately boarded and provided assistance. Unfortunately the passenger died”

A man feels ill shortly after takeoff, the plane returns to Caselle, but by the time the medical personnel manage to get on board it is too late. This is what happened this morning, April 17, at the Sandro Pertini airport in Turin, where a 30-year-old passenger who was on board the Ryanair flight Fr8780 for Lamezia Terme.

At first the news spread that the ambulance (from 118) had been blocked for several minutes at the access gates due to the lack of an “escort”, but Sagat, the company that manages the Turin airport, categorically denies this version: «Today a passenger on board the flight that took off from Turin for Lamezia fell ill. The commander immediately returned to Turin airport where the plane was waited on the tarmac by the airport ambulance and by airport medical staff. The doctor and nurse immediately boarded the plane and provided assistance. Unfortunately the passenger died.”

Based on initial reconstructions it seems that the Ryanair flight to Lamezia Terme had left around 11am and the staff immediately realized that one of the passengers had felt ill. According to Sagat, the pilot did not ask to be able to make an emergency landing at an airport along the way, but he immediately reversed course and returned to Turin. 118 had been notified, the landing occurred 36 minutes after take-off and, in the meantime, the staff had tried to stabilize the patient, who later died. To clarify the dynamics of what happened in Caselle, the SPRESAL inspectors also arrived, together with the police.

The man he was traveling with his wifewho apparently fell ill following the death of her husband and was taken to hospital.
