Bari Polyclinic, 112 activation: “First positive day”

24 hours after the activation of the Single Emergency Number (NUE) 112 Response Center in Bari and its province, there was no delay in the response of the emergency network. The data comes from the operations center of the Bari Polyclinic, which until yesterday responded directly to citizens’ emergency calls to 118 and today is a second level center. There were 516 emergency calls processed yesterday and there were 15% fewer inappropriate calls, i.e. those that did not require a rescue intervention, precisely through the filter operated by the Single Response Center (CUR) NUE 112, based in the Civil Protection department in Modugno.

“We are still in a transition phase in what is a historic step for the emergency network, there is great harmony with the Civil Protection, we have IT technicians in the center these days for the alignment of the systems, but the first indications are positive”, explains the director of the plant, Anna Maria Natola. Citizens’ calls to the single European emergency number 112, or those to 118 coming from the telephone districts 080 (Bari) and 0831 (Brindisi), with the migration which began yesterday, arrive directly at the Single Response Centre. In the event of a health emergency, the CUR operator transfers the call to the second level switchboard and waits for it to be taken over by the switchboard doctor or nurse who, as previously happened, evaluates the case and activates the emergency vehicles.
