Changing the concept of the railway station, in territories with less than 15 thousand inhabitants, in a modern way, making it a popular place not only to take the train but to use services. And what Ferrovie dello Stato aims to achieve with the new ‘Territorial stations’ project which identifies 20 to be renewed throughout Italy, of which 2 in Umbria. They are those of Baiano di Spoleto and that of Castiglione del Lago.
As the first one returns to the earthquake crater, it will be among the first 5 pilot stations to be renovated. FS has announced that the new stations will be equipped with various services. In the meantime, renovations and modernizations will be carried out with a view to energy saving. Secondly, the new premises will be made available to associations and organizations for the provision of services. Such as, for example, healthcare with the provision of medical clinics in collaboration with the Red Cross, social initiatives with the collaboration of associations, or even pharmacies but also the parcel delivery service, thanks to a collaboration with Amazon.
In the presentation brochure, it is reported that seismic improvement interventions will be carried out on the entire building at the Baiano station. The premises will be returned to the Acli association already present. The roof’s rainwater disposal system will be overhauled and the restyling of the waiting room, toilets and redevelopment of all internal rooms will be completed. Furthermore, cleaning treatments for the stone coverings of the facades are envisaged. Therefore, unlike other stations included in the project, services such as health services or parcel delivery are not listed.
