From medicine to commerce: Rimini, capital of conferences

Sea, sun, beach, umbrellas. But also conferences. Many. And all of international level. The deseasonalization of tourism has begun. And to a spring marked by almost full houses, between sporting events, such as the Rimini Marathon, and long weekend holidays such as those of April 25th and May 1st, to a summer with optimistic forecasts, a whole series of events, with a strong international appeal, which from May to November will attract thousands and thousands of tourists to Rimini. When a veritable army of conference attendees arrives at the Palacongressi from all over the world. That so-called high-spending target, on which the Riviera is strongly aiming.

All appointments

But let’s look at these appointments. We will start in May (24-26) with an international medical-scientific conference. From 26 to 30 August it will then be the turn of the International Humic Substances Society during which the various problems related to agriculture and humic substances will be addressed. In September (8-12), however, thousands of food experts will arrive in Rimini for the International Union of Food science and technology. After which, from 23 to 27 September, the “European Evaluation Society” conference will begin, which will deal with green technologies and, in particular, battery conservation. Finally, dance and agri-food markets will be the protagonists of the last two events: the first, the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, which will be held from 10 to 17 October, will deal with the impact that dance has on the medical-scientific field; the second “World union of wholesales markets”, from 30 October to 1 November, will bring together the operators of the world agri-food markets in Rimini.

In short, a series of dates aimed at making the seasonal adjustment effective. For a sector, that of conferences, which had already produced excellent results last year. It is enough to remember, in fact, that for the first time the International Congress and Convention Association had placed Italy on the podium of the best conference destinations in the world, with Rimini entering, for the first time, in the general ranking of the 326 most important cities in the world for this activity.

Conferences and culture

Meanwhile, two new projects associate the Palacongressi with the environmental and artistic riches of the area. The first is a four and a half minute short film, in Italian and English, which tells the experience of an international congressman played by the German actor and Rimini native by adoption, Dirk Ploenissen to promote Rimini as a city of art and conferences.

The second is an initiative which, thanks to an agreement between the Italian Exhibition Group and the Municipality, will allow congress participants to access, with a discount on the entrance price, the places of the museum centre: City Museum, Domus del Chirurgo, Palazzi dell’ Art and Fellini Museum. The reduction will be valid until December 31st and the agreement is extended to the Biennale del Disegno, scheduled from May 4th to July 28th.
