“Lecce, now we need the last effort”, is the headline on page 23 of the Quotidiano di Puglia. The victory against Empoli allowed the Giallorossi to make a leap in the standings: the third from last is -5. With six days to go, the team coached by Gotti could lack another 3 or 4 points to remain in Serie A.
If on the eve of the last round of the championship Captain Blin and his teammates enjoyed an advantage of 4 points over the penultimate and 3 over the third to last, now the situation has improved a lot – we read in the newspaper -. In fact, with six days to go, Lecce boasts a +6 over the penultimate (Sassuolo) and a +5 over the third to last (Frosinone). And what’s more, thanks to the three points collected in last Saturday’s direct clash, the Salento team has moved three points ahead of Empoli in the standings and two points ahead of two other rivals, Cagliari and Verona. All this while waiting to know the outcome of Udinese-Roma, the match suspended in the 72nd minute of the game, with the score 1-1, due to the illness suffered by Roma defender Ndicka. Fortunately, the dangerous situation for the player’s health has subsided. The balance of the last round of the championship is therefore largely positive for Luca Gotti’s boys. Blin and his teammates will close the season by facing in order Sassuolo (away), Monza (home), Cagliari (away), then Udinese and Atalanta (home) and finally Napoli (away). A calendar that is certainly not prohibitive but which still does not allow you to already feel safe.
