The educational project “Earth day: respecting the rules saves the environment” promoted by the Borsellino Prize returns to Abruzzo for the fourth consecutive year
The initiative is organized in collaboration with the Forestry Carabinieri command in agreement with the Ministry of Education and Merit, and the patronage of the Abruzzo Region.
Today in Pescara, at the Sant’Andrea cinema, the first cuttings from the Tree of Legality dedicated to Giovanni Falcone were delivered to five local schools.
The day, opened by greetings from the mayor Carlo Masci, from the president of the PescarAbruzzo Foundation Nicola Mattoscio, from Colonel Giancarlo D’Amato, commander of the forestry carabinieri group of the province of Pescara, continued with the reflections of Professor Graziano Fabrizi, spokesperson for the Borsellino Prize, and by Giuseppe Di Marco, regional president of Legambiente. The event was presented by Francesca Martinelli, spokesperson for the Borsellino Prize.
The educational project “Earth day: respecting the rules saves the environment” is supported by the Biodiversity Forestry Carabinieri and involves the donation, between 17 April and 6 May, and the planting of 30 cuttings of the Falcone tree in as many schools in Pescara, Teramo, L’Aquila, Roseto, Pineto, Nereto, Corropoli and Alba Adriatica. The project highlights the importance of trees for the containment of climate change and environmental conservation: each tree donated and planted represents the symbol of the commitment towards the State and the fight against mafias, such as Judge Giovanni Falcone’s Tree.
These trees will contribute to forming the “large widespread forest” formed by the young plants planted by all the students. The presence of the Falcone Tree will help to raise awareness among young people on the topic of social commitment, but also on the importance of environmental protection. An ambitious project to fight environmental crimes with the weapon of education on environmental legality and with the involvement of schools in this strategic objective.
