The bitterness of the defeat in the final against Pergine which ended the season certainly did not undermine the enthusiasm and the trust of the Mastiffs. Indeed, from a season stingy with trophies, the Gialoneri have only found new awareness and a great desire to redeem themselves with the appointment already launched for the next sporting year.
However, 2023/24 is not over yet and, as per tradition, the Mastini never miss an opportunity to celebrate together with those who are part of the great yellow and black family. And so last night, Tuesday 1 April, To the Right place in Masnago a rich aperitif was held between the team, the sponsors, the professionals and some fans. Music and entertainment, but also the right opportunity to take stock of what, net of the sporting results, was in any case another exciting ride.
“Winning is always difficult and when you lose the shit turns – is the frank comment ofSports Councilor Stefano Malerbawho has the task of “breaking the ice” at the microphone – but your victory was to have conquered Varese: you did something unique, filling the ice rink at every match“.
He is echoed by the president Carlo Bino: “With a team like that it’s nice to share victories but also defeats. Despite everything, I believe that we have experienced a magical year because you can always learn from defeats and I already see a great desire to start again: this team will win again“.
To win you have to build right away and Matteo Malfatti is already working for the Mastiffs of tomorrow: “Let me start by saying that it still stings: it wasn’t the strongest team that won, but the one that made the best use of some moments. However, I see these guys, president, staff and fans, and I am aware that if we had reached game 7 things would have ended differently; we came close to accomplishing something extraordinary, but a defeat doesn’t discourage us and we want to start again with a lot of enthusiasm right away. My 2024/25 season folder has already been open for a few months and we want to build a competitive team to win both the championship and the Italian Cup“.
After the greeting from the host, Mirko Retoit was up to the sponsors present to have their say, starting with Massimiliano Di Caro (Squirrel): “Sport has always been part of my family, but for me it’s the people that make the difference: as soon as I met Carlo and Matteo I had no doubts in embracing this adventure and I’m proud of how the season went. We’ll do it again next year“.
Andrea Ghiringhelli (Ghi.Mec) adds: “I played hockey when I was little and, fortunately, last year I got back into this sport, discovering an extraordinary family: that of the Mastiffs.“.
Authentic show of Ignazio Catania (VivoBike): “What brings me closer to hockey, despite coming from a completely different world, is the atmosphere: when I am at the ice rink I turn off all thoughts and focus only on the spectacle that the Mastiffs offer on the ice“.
He thinks about closing Lorenzo Ballerio (Elmec): “We are proud to represent a company that has given and is giving a lot for Varese. We are happy to be here and thanks can only go to every person who makes all this possible“.
The last intervention, however, belongs to captain Andrea Vanetti: “We have been through a complicated season since day one, it’s true, and we regret not having ended it. Despite the result we still have to be proud because we knew that this year would be more complicated than the previous one: repeating it was complicated, but we reached the semi-final of the Italian Cup and fought in the final until the penultimate match. We have kept the flame of hockey passion alive in the city and for this reason we have to thank all of you. See you next year“.
