Castellammare. There is closeness but awaits the parties’ decision.

The press conference called by 100 per Vicinanza took place yesterday at the Hotel dei Congressi in Castellammare di Stabia. The audience was large, no less was expected, when it is mainly professional doctors who move, it is well known that they are great voters.

In the introduction Amleto Vinciani explains “I don’t intend to talk about the parties so as not to aggravate tempers” and the word passes to Gigi Vicinanza, the former director of L’Espresso and Repubblica Napoli, before launching his vision on Castellammare addressing the audience he says “Gentlemen, if you all ask me to run together, I’m up for it, I won’t give up. I feel all the responsibility. I am a free man, I have no party membership.”

But in recent days, from his Facebook profile, former councilor Tonino Di Martino wanted to underline that Vicinanza’s experience will be in continuity with that of former mayors Polito and Vozza. Precisely, the former councilor writes that “Vicinanza has always supported the Polito and Vozza councils, shared the programmatic choices from the port to the palace to the Hotel in Pozzano. He sponsored Vizza’s candidacy against Pannullo at the Hotel Miramare.”
This, according to Professor Di Martino, is to silence those who point to Vicinanza’s candidacy as an alternative to those experiences. The attempt to seek a strategic alliance with the Vozzi coalition is understandable; the fact is that a large part of Vozza’s allies do not look favorably on the candidacy brought down from above by the provincial PD which is splitting the Stabiese party.

Yesterday the M5S, through MP Gaetano Amato, declared that it no longer wanted to sit at the table with the PD, a party that had asked for support for Roberto Elefante and then backed out to give space to Vicinanza.

In these hours, comparisons with the past seem to be wasted. There are those who bring up the candidacy of Ersilia Salvato, former vice president of the senate who in 2002 was the first woman to be elected mayor of the city of water. At the time, Salvato’s opponents for the candidacy for mayor of the csx were two, both from the then DS, Peppe Bruno and Alberto Irace. Some would consider it appropriate for Elefante to withdraw his candidacy as happened over twenty years ago. However, there is a considerable obstacle to this happening, in 2002 the DS citizen committee was convened and Bruno and Irace withdrew their candidacy and the vote was taken on Ersilia Salvato who obtained the majority. But the Stabia and provincial PD do not seem to have the political stature to face a discussion at the risk of losing the votes on the name of Vicinanza. It is also true that the call to respect the statute which provides for the convocation of the Stabia board put forward by Roberto Elefante has fallen on deaf ears.

The older ones remember that in support of Ersilia Salvato, almost ten thousand signatures were collected in a few days in a paper and online petition. In a percentage consistent with the Stabia society between professionals and the working class. And it is this fact that makes Ersialia Salvato the last left-wing mayor of Castellammare di Stabia.
