The CISL FP of Agrigento, Caltanissetta and Enna. through the general secretary Salvatore Parello and the head of public and private health Alessandro Farruggia, expresses satisfaction with the stabilization of 74 OSS by the ASP of Agrigento but raises the alarm on the need to provide for a rapid qualitative change of the organic resources, with numerous operators seeing their contracts expire as early as June.

“This is certainly another milestone achieved for the purposes of stabilization for the staff hired during the period of the Covid pandemic – explain Parello and Farruggia -. As a Federation, we have always monitored all the steps and we recognize the great work done by the staff of the Human Resources Unit, but from tomorrow it will be important to follow up on the numerous requests for qualitative changes to the organic resources: the most urgent one always concerns the OSS in consideration of the fact that in the month of June there will be numerous contracts expiring and at a time when the shortage of healthcare workers is serious, we cannot risk that even a single unit will remain at home”.

According to the numbers in the union’s possession, 39 doctors, 2,436 family and community nurses, 146 coordinators, 234 OSS and 1348 administrative. In these structures, it should be highlighted how central the role of the nurses is, who will operate there with wide professional autonomy and of the OSS, a support figure for the latter and a guarantee of the quality of the service.

“It therefore seems clear, given the regional needs – continue Parello and Farruggia – that it would be a serious mistake to run the risk of losing healthcare workers who are already trained and who know the relevant socio-health context. We have been following this story continuously for months, which we have also taken charge of during numerous meetings held throughout the territory during which we have always reiterated the need for an immediate expansion of the workforce. Given the time constraints, it is clear that there is not a moment to waste, as confident as we are, because the signals we are receiving from the Administration and the Department are positive.”

Finally, the union requests an urgent discussion regarding the needs of other professional figures such as healthcare, administrative and technical figures for the next three years.

“We believe – conclude Parello and Farruggia – that a constructive discussion can be useful to improve the current staffing, the narrowness of which today is the reason for many organizational problems, shortcomings in numerous corporate entities, the migration of many professionals from one unit to another another”.
