Citrus growing, assembly of the Sicilian PGI Blood Orange Consortium

Not an easy year but equally full of initiatives in Italy and abroad to promote and protect a fruit and a brand, Sicilian Blood Orange PGI, increasingly appreciated and recognized by markets and consumers. During the annual members’ meeting, the president of the Protection Consortium drew up the balance sheet, not only economic, of a chiaroscuro marketing season – the one that will end shortly for the fresh product. of the Sicilian PGI Blood Orange Gerardo Diana. During the assembly Diana remarked how, “despite the difficulties, largely due to the dry climate dictated by global warming, we managed to have positive feedback from our historic buyers and our loyal consumers.”

Among the activities carried out by the Consortium the president mentioned the participation for promotional purposes in major Italian and international fairs of the sector such as Fruit Attraction in Madrid, Fruit Logistica in Berlin, Cibus in Parma and MacFrut in Rimini. The Consortium will participate in the latter two next May. “We have broadened the scope with our second participation in Vicenza Oro and Milano Milano Fashion & Jewels, non-sector trade fairs but very precious opportunities for collaboration and prestigious showcases, both for fresh fruit and for juices,” said Diana. “Collaboration with other Italian and foreign excellences is a path we still intend to follow. Participation, a few days ago, in the 1st International Citrus Exhibition in Mentone confirmed to us that the PGI Sicilian Blood Orange is a versatile fruit, ready for a thousand uses in cooking, in drinks, in desserts. A quality to be valorised without stopping”, continued the president of the Consortium.
