Musumeci in Corigliano Rossano presents the new “Piano Mare”

ORIGLIANO ROSSANO The “fall” of political VIPs into Sibaritide continues in a hot electoral period. Today he was the Minister of Maritime Policy and Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci. The head of the first department dedicated to the blue economy, wanted by the Meloni Government, visited the Port of Corigliano-Rossano to dictate and illustrate the directives of the new Sea Plan launched by the national Executive and which involves eleven ministries. For Musumeci, however, in his Calabrian and Sybarite trip, there was no time – at least at this juncture – to give support to the ferment of the upcoming electoral campaign, very fiery in the Ionian latitudes. «I am here – the Minister replied to the question about the importance of rebuilding a Centre-Right institutional chain – to represent the Government, beyond the electoral calendar and deadlines». “I’m a serious person” he was keen to clarify, adding: «It is clear that if I were to be invited to make policies for my party and for my coalition I would have no difficulty in coming. Ask – he underlined – this question to your fellow senators and others. Of course, I wish the center-right to be able to win its challenge and the challenge can be won not only with the credibility of the candidates, but also with a program that contains few objectives. This is what makes the difference with your opponents.” So, no endorsements and amen.

An epochal turning point

The sea (and only the sea) was today’s theme. «We find ourselves before an epochal turning point». So commented the president of Assonautica Cosenza, Domenico Nigro Imperiale, promoter of today’s event entitled “Calabria and Sea Economy – Instructions for use… wanted”. «For the first time in Italy, we have a Ministry that deals with sea policies which is completing a challenge that has never been achieved before: harmonizing the rules of a truly cumbersome legislative complex. In this – said Nigro Imperiale – Assonaltica is present because it deals with promoting what nautical pleasure is, also involving a series of sectors ranging from agri-food to hospitality, from industry to services and, more generally, everything that from the sea it passes through the hinterland”.

A vast parterre

At the event in the large Ionian dock there were many co-protagonists of the protection of the sea. From the territorial delegation, represented by the senator Ernesto Rapani, trade associations, civil and military authorities. Among others, taking part in the work, also the Prefect of Cosenza, Vittoria Ciaramellaand the commander of the Calabria Carabinieri Legion, Pietro Salsano. The president of the Port Authority of Gioia Tauro, the admiral, was also there Andrea Agostinelli, Mayor Flavio Stasithe president of the Third Regional Commission and candidate for mayor of Corigliano-Rossano, Pasqualina Straface. «The State is always there – recalled Prefect Ciaramella – even when it cannot be seen and Minister Musumeci has already had the opportunity to participate in conferences on other occasions, especially dedicated to the sea and the sea economy in this territory». «Today – said the highest representative of the Government in the area – is certainly an important day because talking about the economy of the sea in an area like the province of Cosenza is certainly important. The sea – concluded the Prefect – it represents the first resource and as such must be protected both to support tourism and the economy and against any exploitation.” Along the same lines as the Prefect, also the Commander Gen. Salsano which recalled the Carabinieri’s commitment to preventing and protecting against environmental crimes. «Almost 40% of the Calabrian territory – recalls Salsano – is not collected, so it is clear that there is a long process of work which mainly concerns the infrastructural aspect. Along with this, however, that environmental awareness needs to mature even if – he added – I have a lot of trust in young people who are much more attentive to this area and convey a lot of confidence for the future».

«The Calabria Region must lead the seafood supply chain»

«This appointment here in Calabria – these are the declarations of the Minister of Maritime Policies and Civil Protection, Nello Musumeci – takes on a particular meaning that it wants to be. At least in my intentions it is a moment of comparison of final balance and estimate at the same time. All the regions, especially those in the South, which are fortunate enough to be bathed by the sea, will be able and must find a moment of synthesis around the new Sea Plan. As for Calabria, I believe it is thereThe Region has to lead the supply chain, bring together public and private sectors and present it to the National Government».
