VARESE – The meticulous search for details and the ability to line them up to unite all the pieces of the puzzle. These are the elements that made the difference in the complex investigations conducted by flying team of the Varese Police Headquarters, together with the local police of Monte Orsa, to give a name to the two robbers who had targeted them between 2017 and 2018 two service stations with exchange office in Brusino Arsiziocountry of Canton Ticino located on the border with Valceresio, for a total of three shots with a total loot of 120 thousand euros.

The process

Investigations which have returned to the foreground in the ongoing trial in court in Varese in which the man born in 1984 is accused and according to the Prosecutor’s Office he is one of the two responsible for those robberies. The alleged accomplice has already been sentenced with summary judgment. Speaking in front of the college was one of the protagonists of that investigative activity, which started with a report from the Swiss authorities and concerning the movement on a scooter towards the Italian border of two robbers, on the run with 60 thousand euros and probably armed.

Coincidences

The robbery dates back to April 2017 and that scooter model is the first detail not to be underestimated for investigators. The data of all vehicles of that type registered in the provinces of Varese and Como are reviewed. There are just over 600. On the list is the scooter lent by the owner to one of the two criminals. A scooter associated by the investigator with that of the robbery, aalso thanks to a detail that emerged from Facebook: an immortalized helmet in a photo and identical to one of the two used for the shot.

The cameras

Helmets on, knife and gun in hand. This is how the robbers acted. To one of the two during the third and final robbery, in April 2018, he had moved his balaclava under the gaze of the petrol station cameras. And the frame of the face has thus become a precious element in arriving at arrests.

The man now on trial that day was wearing a jacket closed in such a way as to cover the tattoos on your neck, and sunglasses so as not to show the tattooed tear near one eye. But the balaclava got him into trouble. Still details that do not escape those who investigate. Details that include another frame, this time extrapolated from a camera in the center of Porto Ceresio: shows, at a time relevant to the investigation, a man who is behind the wheel of a car and is wearing red gloves identical to those used by one of the robbers.

The stolen car and cell phones

The car trips of the criminals concern only one of the three robberies, but they were equally decisive for the reconstruction of the way of acting. The vehicle, it was learned at the hearing, had been stolen in Milan and had entered Switzerland with license plates in turn coming from a theft, carried out by taking the license plates of a car found in a car park in Bisuschio, in which the owner then left without realizing that her vehicle had the license plates of the car stolen in Milan by the robbers, finally betrayed by the use of cell phones: after the robberies they hooked up to the same telephone cells when traveling between Valceresio and Olgiate Olonaplace of residence of one of the two.
