Livorno, the International Sailing Week is back

Livorno, 16 April 2024 – La International Sailing Week it is an important sailing event, organized by the Naval Academy with the Livorno Sailing Clubs, which takes place along the Tuscan coast and includes a great variety of regattas. It was presented by the admiral Lorenzano Di Renzoby the councillor Rocco Garufo and by the president of the nautical club committee Andrea Mazzoni.

Among the classes present, offshore boats, optimists and stars will compete; the trident 16 and open skiff classes will compete in races valid for the Italian class championship, while j24, flying junior, fireball, hansa 303/2.4 mr will compete in national level regattas. In addition to these competitions, on April 24th, starting just before sunset, one of the most challenging regattas of the entire event will be held on the Livorno, Porto Cervo, Capri and return to Livorno route: the RAN 630, the Academy Regatta Naval, 630 nautical miles long.

The departure ceremony, which will see the participation of Giovanni Soldini – solo navigator and world-famous racer – will take place on board a Frigate of the Navywho will kick off the competition with a cannon shot.

The “SVI” program also includes the “Naval Academies Regatta” (NAR), the Naval Academies regatta, organized by the Naval Academy of Livorno in collaboration with the Antignano sailing club on 26, 27 and 28 April, in which Navy crews from at least 30 different nations will compete on board the Tridente 16 class (Annex 1); the regatta will also see the participation of a large number of civilian crews. Not just sailing, but a great variety of cultural, social and entertainment activities will be organized at the Sailing Village, set up for the first time at the Historic Workshops of Portaa Mare. In addition to this, all the village’s patrons will have the opportunity to attend conferences, engage in sporting challenges, try the Armed Force’s simulators (Hurricane fast vessel, FREMM class frigate, AB212 helicopter, submarine) and interface with the Navy’s Mobile Information Center Military.
