The city of Casoria is ready to welcome the image of the Holy Face of Capodimonte and remember Mother Flora, citizen of Casoria from 22 February 1938 to 12 November 1940. For the occasion, the municipal administration and the culture sector, directed by Vincenzo Russo, organized three days of events from 19 to 21 April. For the first time in its history, the effigy of the Holy Face leaves the Sanctuary of Capodimonte to be venerated in another municipality.

The three days of religious events will open on Friday 19 April, at 7.00 pm, with a conference on the life of Mother Flora in the P. Ludovico room of the Basilica of San Mauro. Speakers will include the mayor of Casoria Raffaele Bene, the councilor for culture Vincenzo Russo, the mother superior of the Volto Santo Sister Elvira Minicozzi, the parish priest of the Basilica Don Mauro Zurro and the author of the book Prof. Ulderico Parente. The journalist Giuseppe De Silva will moderate the meeting. Following at 9.30 pm, there will be Eucharistic adoration animated by young people from the parishes of the Casori area.

The event most awaited by the faithful is scheduled for Saturday 20 April, at 5.00 pm, in Piazza Cirillo, where the venerated image of the Holy Face will arrive.

After the welcome in the town square, the religious procession will wind towards Mother Flora’s house, in Vico V Marco Rocco, where a commemorative plaque will be unveiled. The route will embrace the alleys of the historic center to end at the Basilica of San Mauro, where, at 7.00 pm, the Holy Mass will be celebrated by Don Michele Madonna of the New Forms of Evangelization Service of the Archdiocese of Naples. On Sunday 21 April, however, the mass will be celebrated by Don Mauro Zurro at 12.00 and at the end of the final prayer there will be a greeting to the Holy Face.

Culture councilor Vincenzo Russo expressed himself as follows: “For the first time in its history the painting of the Holy Face leaves its Sanctuary and arrives in a city in the Campania region, an extraordinary event of faith for the whole community. the profound sense of devotion of the Casorian citizens towards the Holy Face is strong and we are happy to have planned a series of religious initiatives that will remember Mother Flora, a Casorian citizen, and will allow us to strengthen our historical and cultural traditions with the Holy Face to which we feel extremely connected.”

“In the journey of the City of Saints, next weekend’s appointment with the arrival in Casoria of the painting of the Holy Face certainly represents one of the most significant moments. From Friday to Sunday the Casorians will live 48 hours immersed in spirituality, but also in tribute to our roots and traditions. Suggestive events which also have the merit of attracting many faithful from nearby areas, helping to germinate the seed of the religious tourism that we are trying to encourage with constant and relevant initiatives” declared Mayor Raffaele Bene.
