Exhibition tribute to Amelia Platone on the thirtieth anniversary of her death – Lavocediasti.it

On the thirtieth anniversary of his disappearance, the Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation pays homage to the personality of Amelia Plato (Asti 1927-1994), a leading figure in the artistic and cultural panorama. Teacher and active protagonist of the Second World War, Plato was among the founders of Fine Arts Promotion Society of Asti and Turin, as well as the “La Giostra” Art Gallery of Asti. Furthermore, he held the role of consultant for the Artistic Heritage of the Municipality of Asti.

Saturday April 20, 2024at 17at the headquarters of Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation in Palazzo Alfieri (Asti, Corso Alfieri 375), the exhibition will be inaugurated “Amelia Plato. The line drawn”. The event is organized in collaboration with Asti Museums FoundationThe Municipality of Astithe Province of Astiand enjoys the support of Cassa di Risparmio di Asti Foundationof theReale Mutua Insurance – Asti Agencyand of Royal Bank. The exhibition will be open until May 26, 2024every day from 10am to 7pm.

The exhibition project, curated by Marida Faussone, Eugenia And Rita Castellanapresents a selection of thirty-five works belonging to private collections. Among these, there are drawings, linocuts, watercolors and tempera on paper. Some historical testimonies were already exhibited during the exhibition “Amelia Plato. Four decades’ theme”held at Municipal Cultural Center of the City of Valencia from 8 December 1990 to 6 January 1991.

During the years of attendance atAlbertina Academy (1948-1952), Amelia Platone received the Press Avondo And Uberti. The teacher Felice Casorati he understood his natural compositional skills: the “sensitive sign” and the “harmonious, sustained construction”. The artist reworked his expressive research in various techniques, including engraving, learned from his first lessons in Filippo Scroppo and consolidated under the leadership of Marcello Boglione And Mario Calandri.

The current exhibition features precious drawings, such as the “Face” of 1951 (charcoal on paper) and the “Tea table” of 1954 (oil drawing on paper), together with significant engravings such as “People on the street” (1952, linoleum engraving, edition of 15) e “The coat hanger” (1952, linoleum engraving, edition of 15 copies). These works document the everyday life of human life and convey a profound message of social participation, individual dignity, ethical and civil commitment.

Watercolors and temperas, like “The blue truck” (1953), “The traffic light” (1953), “The open window” (1956), “Figure on the sofa” (1957), and “Sleeping little girl” (1965), reveal intense ranges of color. This tonal universe accompanies Amelia Platone’s perception of the surrounding world, from the thin margins of spaces to the environmental architecture, from the profiles of the figures to the intensity of emotions and gestures.

The observation of reality, deepened between 1957 and 1964 during stays in Puglia and Sicily, is reflected in the timbric power of the chromatic ranges in the Mediterranean light. In the following years, Amelia Platone’s adherence to realist languages ​​manifests itself in oil paintings and terracotta sculptures, with a predilection for figures of elderly people and mature women, portrayed in the architectural rigor of small peripheral villages, as well as young mothers and adolescents in the intimacy of domestic interiors.

Creative activity it unfolded over four decadesintense with existential and artistic experiences, in constant participation in exhibitions in Europe, personal exhibitions in prestigious Italian centers and anthological exhibitions, among which we remember Cerrina Monferrato, 1982; Valenza Po, 1990; Asti, Baptistery of San Pietro, 1993. Among the numerous posthumous installations: Municipality of Asti, Zonta Club I. of Asti, anthological, Battistero S. Pietro 2002; Municipality of Asti, Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation, anthological, Baptistery of St. Peter 2009 and solo exhibition on the twentieth anniversary of the death of “Amelia Platone. Time denied. Memories of Sicily”, Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation, Asti 2014; City of Nizza Monferrato, Davide Lajolo Association, Palazzo Crova 2017; artistic meeting “A Casa di Amelia”, Montemagno 2019; “The forced image. Stories of women in the works of Amelia Platone”, Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation, Asti 2020; “Reality-Force and poetics in the works of Amelia Platone”, Spazio Arte La Rocca Casa Prunotto, Costigliole d’Asti 2022. Among the recent exhibitions: “The other half: women in art”, Casa Francotto, Busca 2023.
