By beating Astra Stadium Catania in three sets in game 2 of the promotion play-off final of the Serie D championship, Avimecc Volley Modica “flies” into the Serie C championship. A well-deserved success achieved on Saturday afternoon at the “Geodetico” in via Fabrizio from coach Ciccio Italia’s boys who clearly overturned the tie break defeat suffered in Etna. 25/17, 25/23, 25/20 of a match played in front of a beautiful crowd, with a large representation of visiting fans. The blue and white sextet, made up entirely of boys who also successfully compete in the under 19 and under 17 youth championships, after having studied the Catania team in the initial stages, placed the decisive break in the middle of the half to increase the score. The guests tried to stay in the lead, but they had difficulty especially in reception and the young “Galletti” dug the furrow that led them to win the set hands down with a score of 25/17. The second half of the game was more balanced with Astra Stadium trying to react, but the blue and white closed the set 25/23. Following the winning streak, the third set was also played, ending 25 to 20 with the fans who transformed the “Geodetico” into a “Torcida”, when an ace while serving earned promotion to Serie C for the Modican team who deserved the lots of applause and celebration for all the good things they managed to achieve this season. Now head to the under 17 and under 19 regional finals, where the young people from Modica are in the running. A result, comments president Ezio Aprile, which is also the right reward for the club which has always believed in the youth sector, but above all for the technical and managerial staff who worked with “lights off” and allowed all the youngsters in the academy exponential and constant growth. For the top flight, however, it is a moment of relaxation; before “breaking ranks”, the Modica management wanted to thank all the players who were part of the Volley Modica family this season and perhaps meet up later, after the well-deserved holidays to understand if there are the conditions to continue with many of them again next season. However, the future of coach Enzo Distefano, who has already been reconfirmed for next season, is sealed. “We as a club had no doubts about his preparation and professionalism,” says Aprile. Enzo Distefano has been with us for several years now, but in his first season in the A3 series he demonstrated his full worth by getting the most out of all the athletes he had at his disposal.”
